Highlights from the Annual Conference

The fourth annual JWW conference brought together a record-breaking number of cross-sector stakeholders to hear from national, state, and local leaders on innovative solutions and proven approaches for addressing the state's water infrastructure crisis.

Members from across the state announced their  commitments to action in 2019 , projects or initiatives they plan to undertake that will further the collaborative's goals. Winners of the 2018 One Water Awards were recognized for their holistic water infrastructure projects and programs.
New Report from the JWW Combined Sewer Overflow Committee

The purpose of this report, Balancing Green and Gray Solutions to CSO Management , is to provide guidance to CSO permit holders and their Supplemental CSO Community Teams, to help guide the development of long term control plans (LTCPs) for determining an optimal green/gray infrastructure balance.

New Campaign Engages Communities in Shaping CSO Solutions

A statewide coalition, including 11 JWW members,  recently unveiled Sewage-Free Streets and Rivers, a coordinated campaign across New Jersey communities with combined sewer systems, which can release raw sewage during heavy rainfalls.

The goal of the campaign is to build capacity for community organizations to engage residents, business leaders, and elected officials so that community members can learn about various solutions and indicate which ones they want prioritized. Stakeholder Meeting Hosted by NJ Department of Environmental Protection

NJ DEP is hosting a public hearing on the  proposed amendments, repeals, and new changes to the stormwater management rules. The meeting will take place on  January 8 in Trenton.

NJ DEP has also published and added new chapters to the  NJ Stormwater Best Management Practices Manual . The chapters are 9.14 - Green Roofs and 9.15 - Cisterns. 

Funding Opportunities

Deadline: Jan. 31, 2019
Funds available: One-year awards are typically between $25,000 - $75,000. Two-year projects are typically between $50,000 - $150,000.
Includes dedicated funding to support green stormwater infrastructure projects that advance water-related sustainability goals

Deadline: Jan. 31, 2019
Funds available: Approximately $1.7 million nationwide
Supports development of community capacity to sustain local natural resources through diverse local partnerships focused on improving water quality and watersheds

Next deadline: Feb. 4, 2019
Funds available: $1.2 million
Supports protection and stewardship of land in the watershed (not restoration of degraded habitats or projects with a strictly water quality improvement outcome)

Deadline: Feb. 15, 2019
Funds available: Four $20,000 awards; eight $10,000 awards; 20 $2,000 awards
Supports local green team efforts related to Sustainable Jersey actions, included those related to water infrastructure

Deadline: Feb. 15, 2019
Funds available: Approximately five grants per EPA region in amounts of up to $30,000 each
Supports community-based organizations with projects that help residents of underserved communities understand and address local environmental and public health issues

Deadline: March 15, 2019
Funds available: Four $10,000 grants to school districts or schools; 30 $2,000 grants to support school green teams
Supports efforts related to Sustainable Jersey in Schools actions, included those related to water infrastructure
