The Library's annual quilt show, is now on display through Thursday, February 14. Guides to the quilts are available at the circulation desk.
Please note that two quilts are being raffled. Tickets can be purchased at the Quilter's Store Sedona. Additionally, quilts numbered 27 and 32 are available for purchase. For details, call the Quilter's Store at 928-282-2057.
Also, don't miss the final days of Celeste York's handmade dollhouse display! The last day to view these detailed works of art is January 3.

- Conversational Spanish Group: The group meets every Wednesday evening at the Library, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
- Blood Drive: Make a difference in your community by giving blood at the Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, January 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the community room. To schedule an appointment, call 800-733-2767 or log on to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code sedonalibrary. Walk-ins are also welcome.
- Book Club: Join us at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, in the Quiet Study for a discussion of the book "Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery," by Scott Kelly.
- Coffee with a Veteran: January's Coffee with a Veteran will feature personal memorabilia that our local veterans will bring to share. Sedona Women will provide lunch to all attendees following the program. Everyone is welcome to join us on Friday, January 11, at 10 a.m. in the community room for this free event.
- Conversational French Group: The group will meet on Tuesday, January 15, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Quiet Study.
- Mental Health First Aid Training: This all-day training event will take place on Friday, January 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Class size for this free program is limited; please register by contacting Barbara Litrell of the Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley at 928-649-0135 or [email protected]. Participants need to provide their own lunch.
- Ta'i-Chi Chuan Workshop: On Saturday, January 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the community room, instructor Blaine Harris will provide a free introductory workshop and discussion about the ancient art of T'ai-Chi Ch'uan and its practical applications for health. Q&A to follow.
- Speaker Program: On Wednesday, January 23, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the community room, join author Gary Lindner for his presentation "Bad Men, Bad Times, and Beautiful Dolls: The Pulp Fiction Era." Lindner will discuss the writing styles and authors of the pulp fiction era (the 1900s through the 1950s) of American literature and explain how the genre served as the foundation for nearly all other fiction genres that followed.
- Health Presentation: On Saturday, January 26, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the community room, Marie-Josephine Royall-Schreck will present "Preventative Health through Ayurveda and Meditation." At this program, Royall-Schreck, an RN, certified meditation teacher, and yoga therapist, will introduce the Ayurvedic perspective on maintaining a balanced state of health through daily habits, including meditation.
- Speaker Program: On Wednesday, January 30, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the community room, author Dee Lindner invites you to join in the fun of America's red-heel sock monkey tradition at her program "Sock Monkey: America's Love Story." Learn about the origins of sock monkeys and view vintage and modern red-heel socks and sock monkeys from Lindner's collection. Bring your own red-heel sock monkey and/or share your own sock monkey story, time permitting.

StoryWalk at Sunset Park
|
Sedona Public Library has opened its permanent StoryWalk display at Sunset Park! Residents and visitors alike are welcome to walk along the half-mile, paved, accessible path and enjoy the children's book "In the Middle of Fall," by Kevin Henkes.
The Library also encourages local schools, businesses, and other groups to visit the StoryWalk exhibit. Be sure to come back each season, as we debut a new story four times a year.
StoryWalk is made possible through a partnership with the City of Sedona Parks and Recreation and Public Works Departments, as well as through the generosity of the Goldenstein Gallery, the Arizona Community Foundation, and the Langston Family Foundation. Thank you to our partners and donors for helping to bring StoryWalk to Sedona!

Movies in January

Celebrate the new year with a free movie at the Library! Screenings start at 6 p.m. in the community room. Please note there will be no film on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- January 7: The Children Act, about a British judge who must decide if she should order a life-saving procedure for a teen with cancer.

 January 14: Alpha, an adventure saga, set in the last Ice Age, about a young hunter and his dog trying to survive alone in the wilderness.
- January 28: Searching, about a desperate father attempting to locate his missing daughter through her digital footprints.

Library Events in the Village

- Arizona Humanities Program: Join speaker Greg McNamee for his presentation "Cowpokes, Crooks, and Cactus: Arizona in the Movies," on Wednesday, January 9, at 1:30 p.m. From the earliest days of film to the present day, Arizona has been a setting and subject for hundreds of films. This entertaining talk looks at the Grand Canyon State on the silver screen.
The program will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, 55 Rojo Drive, in the Village of Oak Creek. Sponsored by Arizona Humanities and Friends of the Sedona Library, the presentation is free and open to the public.
- Community Book Discussion: Participate in the book discussion of "Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books," by Azar Nafisi, on Tuesday, January 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Sedona Winds. Pick up your loaner copy at Sedona Public Library in the Village or place a hold in the Yavapai Library Network catalog.
