The Capitol Express

The Georgia General Assembly completed Day 25 on Friday, March 1st, highlighted by the passing of the FY 2020 Budget, in HB 31.

The session continues to move quickly with Legislative Day 28, Crossover Day,  coming this Thursday on March 7th.  Crossover Day is the day which bills must have passed either the House or the Senate to have an opportunity to pass as standalone legislation this year.

Some other bills of interest that passed the House the Week of 2/25//2019:

  • HB 105 income tax exemption for monies received as payments from Federal Disaster Relief from Hurricane Michael.
  • HB 26 allows Georgia to have interjurisdictional licensing for Psychologists - better access for Georgia patients.
  • HB 228 raises the minimum age of marriage in Georgia to 17 years old to protect our young citizens.  Thanks to the Alpharetta citizens that came down and spoke with me in favor of this measure.

Student Leadership Johns Creek at the Capitol

On Wednesday, February 27th, I was pleased to join my colleagues in the House to welcome Student Leadership Johns Creek to the State Capitol.

Great opportunity to hear about Georgia Tech from President Peterson

As Chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education, I will work closely with Dr. Peterson and others in the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia to provide the best possible educational opportunities for Georgians.

There are exciting things happening on North Avenue and our committee looks forwards to learning more and spreading the word.

Meeting with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's Shelia Miller

Enjoyed a great visit with Shelia Miller from the Gates Foundation.

Look forward to having the foundation back to speak to the entire committee and provide information we can use as we continue to work together to provide Georgians the best path to and through the higher education process on their way to rewarding and economically productive careers.

Great to meet some of Georgia's future doctors!
Great time meeting and talking with Vijay and Leila, a medical student and medical resident, about  ways to provide more healthcare options for Georgians!

These young doctors and future doctors are impressive and their opinions are important as we work together for Georgians!

Thanks for being involved and your commitment to help me learn more about how we can continue to improve healthcare opportunities for Georgians.
