Tillamook Forest Center is closed Tuesdays this summer
For the first time since the TFC opened in 2006, we will be closed on Tuesdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This means reducing the number of summer days when visitors can explore the exhibit gallery, walk the trails, and attend programs from seven to six days per week.
Summer hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, closed on Tuesdays.

We are working hard to achieve our mission of providing forest education and interpretation, and hope to minimize disruptions to services we provide for over 60,000 visitors each year. Tuesday is typically the least busy day of the week.
We will still be offering a variety of great programs and events on our open days throughout the summer.
Fall hours will remain unchanged, with free public access to the center from Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from the week after Labor Day through the end of November.

Many hands make light work!
Special thanks to our all-star volunteer, Lillian!
Lillian Cochran joined our team as a site host at the TFC in March, already having deep roots in the Tillamook State Forest.  Her grandfather and great grandfather walked the old Highway 6 to find a new place to farm, and her mother was one of the school kids that helped replant trees after the Tillamook Burn. As a volunteer, Lillian assisted with maintenance of the building and grounds, always making sure the center was safe and looking its finest to ensure visitors an optimal experience. We want to recognize her hard work and commitment and say THANK YOU!
Seeking fun, friendly volunteers to join our supportive TFC team
Do you have a love for forests and natural resources? Would you like to share that passion with others? We are always looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join our fun loving team at the Tillamook Forest Center. We have a variety of positions available including roving naturalists, environmental education assistants, information desk ambassadors, and facility maintenance. Our volunteer schedules are flexible and in addition to working in a beautiful setting, you will be provided with all of the training and support needed to make sure this is a job you look forward to coming to.

Fun things to do all summer
There is always something fun to do each summer at the Tillamook Forest Center. Don't miss a new art exhibit titled Ravage & Recovery featuring forest paintings, as well as, painted conchs and a cross-cut saw by Tillamook County-native Bud Johansen. Get a hug from Smokey Bear and explore the Connections with Wildlife traveling exhibit, on loan from the Oregon Hunters' Association and the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, during the 11th annual Return from the Burn event in August. As always, our interpretive naturalists will lead interpretive programs for all ages regularly throughout the summer. Visit the TFC website for more details on upcoming programs and events.

The Trust looks forward

Spirit Mountain Community Fund and The Ford Family Foundation join a growing list of contributors to the Tillamook Forest Center Pavilion Project -
The Trust recently received
notice from these two foundations of their approval of grants to support the pavilion project. The Spirit Mountain Community Fund is contributing $60,000 towards the project, and The Ford Family Foundation has pledged $50,000. With these two partners, we now have contributions and pledges totaling over $450,000 in hand, and are in the final phase of our capital campaign.
With some final fundraising this summer, we are now planning for construction on the new pavilion to begin this fall, and to be ready to host school students there for the spring programs in 2018. We are still looking for a few last-minute donors to help us finish off the campaign. Rock star team & new addition to the TFC family!
Sara Fischer
(Seasonal Interpretation & Education Specialist)
Sara received her BA in Environmental Science from Willamette University in 2011, and has strived to connect people to nature ever since. This pursuit has led her to work in all sorts of interesting places, from a 160-year-old grist mill in Shedd, Oregon, to an insectarium in Costa Rica. Insects and fungi are some of Sara's many passions in the natural world.
Matthew Goolsby
(Facilities Assistant)
Matthew graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. He has worked at a cooperative farm for the past three years managing chicken operations, deliveries, and fixing things around the farm. Matt enjoys hiking, camping, and has passion for ecology.
Fletcher Warren
(Future Recreation Enthusiast)
Delivered by Great Blue Heron (since the Tillamook State Forest doesn't have storks), Fletcher Warren was welcomed into the TFC family on March 28
th 2017. Fletcher's parents, Jen of the Tillamook Forest Center staff and Roger of the Oregon Department of Forestry's Forest Grove District Recreation staff greatly look forward to a lifetime of outdoor adventures with their little cub.

Winter leaves its mark across the forest
During the dry, pleasant days of summer, it is easy to forget the harsh winter weather that bombarded the Tillamook State Forest this past year. Flooded rivers and heavy snowfall left their mark on many of the trails, campgrounds, and day-use areas through the forest. Volunteers have been busy helping Oregon Department of Forestry recreation staff clean recreation areas of fallen debris throughout the spring.
