Home at Last: Sacred Zuni Artifact Returns to Where It Belongs
A two-foot-long wood carving known as an Ahayu:da, a sacred object to the Zuni people of New Mexico, was formally repatriated August 30 as part of a visit to campus by a three-person Zuni delegation. The day capped a three-year journey for art history professor Bille Wickre, who found the artifact deep within the College's art collection, where it had been largely unnoticed since it was given to the College in 1973. To honor their Delta Sig brother, a group of alumni have established the Peter Radowick, ’80, Student Assistance Fund. The endowed scholarship will benefit a full-time Albion College student who, due to the death or permanent disability of a parent or legal guardian, would be at risk of not completing their Albion education.
