SEPTEMBER 2020
August’s light has changed into that September gold and the crickets lull us into thinking we have time. That’s the trick they play, whispering that summer will stay. And maybe summer will remain for awhile longer, pushing autumn back into winter and the lingering heat and blue skies will make us feel lucky. This is a precocious season, and COVID has made plans challenging.
The last tunes from the Ben Mere bandstand have been played for summer 2020, but the gardens, lovingly tended by the Sunapee Gardener volunteers are welcoming September with all their glorious color.

"SEVEN TO SAVE”

The Livery in Sunapee Harbor proudly earned a mention in the recent bulletin of the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance.

Plans for rehabilitating and redeveloping three former Seven-to-Save-listed historic buildings got a giant boost from the Northern Border Regional Commission’s recently-announced 2020 grants. Congratulations to the Gale School in Belmont, Grafton Center Meetinghouse and Livery Building in Sunapee.

SCHOOLS ARE OPENING!
Be on the alert for children walking to school and remember to stop for those yellow buses!

Thank you for tuning in to Sunset Boulevard on Saturday, August 29th! Due to an outpouring of support, at a cap of 500 listeners, some of you were not able to listen, but SURPRISE! We have made Sunset Boulevard available for 1 week until Monday September 7th! Recorded live from the Barn stage, some of your favorite alums performed a one-hour and five minute radio play, based on the Lux Radio Production and the 1950’s film. Favorite Barn actors include Susan Haefner, Julia Bain, Scott Sweatt, Jacob Tischler, Hayden Eric, Keith Coughlin and Elliott Cunningham, and foley sound effects by Barn Music Director Robbie Cowan.
TOMATO SEASON!
If you are one of the over zealous gardeners with a bountiful supply of tomatoes and zucchini… there’s help on the way… at least for the tomatoes, (Zucchini suggestion: let a couple of them stay on the vine until first frost... perhaps you can beat the Guinness World’s Record of a whopping 8 ft 3.3 inch zucchini!

LAKE SOLITUDE
It’s not even Labor Day, but we're New Englanders, and can’t help but dream of crunchy leaves and jaunty pumpkins.

Time to trek one of ASLPT trails… or venture up to Lake Solitude which lies just over the top of Mt. Sunapee, in the crater of an ancient volcano.

The fresh air and exercise is good for body and soul, and the views are spectacular.
