CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST HOST

MEDITATION

Rev. Gerald P. Caprio, Executive Director

Presenter: Michelle L. Myles Chambers , FAITHS Program Manager

Michelle joined The San Francisco Foundation in 1997 to work with the FAITHS Program, which aims to enhance the work of faith-based organizations that deliver services or advocate for their communities. The FAITHS Program achieves this by connecting faith-based organizations with support from nonprofits and foundations; providing technical and financial assistance and serving as a bridge between the philanthropic community and the faith-based community. A lifelong resident of West Oakland, she has a long history of community organizing and working to improve the quality of life for residents throughout the Bay Area. Strong, determined, and socially conscious, Michelle became an advocate at the age of 14. Joining her family, they organized community residents to address the poor living conditions brought about by a slum lord. Her community organizing has focused on a number of issues that impact the community. Through her broad leadership with Episcopal Impact Fund, she is working on alleviating the root causes of poverty - engaging in environmental justice and providing funding for high school students to have writing coaches as well as mentorship. Michelle resides in Oakland with her husband, Reverend Ken Chambers. She has four children and seven grandchildren. Michelle's deep knowledge of the faith community, tireless commitment to racial and economic equity, and her community organizing skills make her an outstanding leader of the FAITHS Program.
