Advocacy Days at the Legislature      

UBCM's Executive was in Victoria at the end of February to raise awareness of key policy priorities. Over two days, Executive members met with 27 MLAs from all parties, including Premier John Horgan, 10 ministers, the leader of the Official Opposition, and both caucus chairs. Meetings focussed on cannabis revenue sharing, affordable housing, and climate change. Read more
Employer Health Tax Impacts      

Last May, UBCM released a report concerning the impacts of the Employer Health Tax (EHT) on local governments. In light of the significant turnover among the membership following the 2018 local government general election, UBCM's Executive is redistributing the report as local governments are preparing 2019 budgets. UBCM Executive Meeting Highlights       

Executive members met in Victoria over February 20-22 to hold their quarterly Committee and board meetings. Executive members also met with MLAs from all parties to share local government perspectives on housing, cannabis and climate change. Read more 
Active Transportation Consultation       

Local governments are invited to provide feedback on the provincial government's Active Transportation Strategy. This Strategy is part of the CleanBC plan and the consultation will ask stakeholders for ideas on how to make active transportation options more convenient and affordable. A new online discussion question will be posted every two weeks beginning March 1, and ending on April 15.  
BC Energy Step Code Survey       

The BC Energy Step Code Council is surveying local government staff on the awareness of and readiness to adopt the BC Energy Step Code, and the experiences of local governments who are already implementing it. The Council encourages local government staff to complete the survey by Friday, March 22.
