December 30, 2018: Participatory Poetry Service

As we come to the end of our month of exploring Mystery, we will gather to share our favorite poems on the Mystery of the Known and the Unknown.

What is amazing and mysterious about the ordinary and everyday? And then there are the Big Questions of mystery: Where did we come from, and what is our purpose? How do we describe the indescribable?

Bring poems, written by you or others, to read aloud, or just come to listen.

Coffee and tea will be served during the service in the Fellowship Hall.

This service will be co-led by Valerie Taylor and Kat Braeman. Valerie is a long-time member of UUCM, loves poetry, and has led this service, between Christmas and New Year's, twice before. Kat is a member of our Board of Trustees, and is a writer and editor, among many other talents.

Notes Along the Way
Rev marcus
Dear Ones,

Autumn rains have turned starwheel, as we sang on Sunday, and Winter is upon us. I offer you a blessing for this holiday season:

May we savor the moments of merriment and good cheer-
The feast for our senses, the flavors and lights, and the smells and sounds,
the warm fuzzy pajamas and robes and slippers-
May this feast nourish us body and spirit and linger in the senses for many days to come.
May unexpected moments of depth, and meaning, and beauty
awaken us
and lead us to fall in love with this world again,
fall in love so that we may meet the sorrows, disappointments and frustrations,
from the smallest irritations to the great griefs we must face,
meet them all as friends,
necessary companions on the journey.
Savor, nourish, awaken, love.
May you and your family be so blessed this holiday season.

With you on the journey,
Rev. Marcus

Roy Zimmerman: RiZe Up - January 13, 4 - 6 pm
Save the date Sunday Jan. 13, 4 pm for this fabulous event.

In the current national nightmare, we need to laugh. And we need to hope. Roy Zimmerman's signature blend of heart and hilarity has never been more necessary. RiZe Up is ninety minutes of Roy Zimmerman's original songs, a funny and forceful affirmation of Peace and Social Justice.

Roy's songs have been heard on HBO and Showtime, and his videos have garnered tens of millions of views.  He has recorded for Warner/Reprise Records. He's shared stages with Bill Maher, Ellen DeGeneres, Holly Near, Robin Williams, Arlo Guthrie, John Oliver, Kate Clinton and George Carlin, and tours the country constantly with his wife and co-writer Melanie Harby.
