Friday Folders for Lakeview, Riverview and Valleyview

Lakeview School

Valleyview School

Riverview School

The Lakeview family was honored to partner with ProjectKIND for our service learning project to help the homeless. ProjectKIND creates opportunities and builds support systems for those experiencing homelessness. They believe in strengthening our community through kindness and helping those who are in need to achieve their goals. These supports include food and needed items and assistance that allow those experiencing homelessness to focus on their strengths and overcome their challenges.
ProjectKIND's Rhett Ellison of the NY Giants and his family challenged us to "Pack a SACK". Our Lions Roar'd with PRIDE as they accepted the challenge not only packing 300 SACKS filled with items including hats, gloves, socks, toiletries, and items to support those that are homeless but we were able to donate $4000.00 to ProjectKIND. This was all accomplished through a Read-a-thon enabling students to earn money for the needed items. Students then "purchased" the items from our Kindness Cart to fill the sacks. On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, Lakeview School, families and community members including the Rotary Club came together to "Pack the SACKS". We are very thankful for all of your support with this service learning project. Our Lakeview Community paid it forward in amazing ways! Thank you to the PTA for pre-purchasing all of the items, Rhett Ellison of the New York Giants for giving us the SACK Challenge, the Rotary Club for their donation and volunteer time, parents and community members who participated, attended and supported us, and especially the staff and students who took on the SACK Challenge with excitement exceeding all of our expectations.
Our second grade students showcased their talents this week performing their musical: "Swamped!" The performance represents a culmination of hard work and musical expression that we have been building upon for a little over a month. Not only did they produce great music, they represented themselves, their families and their school with P.R.I.D.E.
Congratulations on a job well done... better than Broadway!
"Oh, the Places You'll Go!"... the possibilities are endless when you enter the pages of a memorable book. No author has demonstrated this more than Dr. Seuss. In his world-famous books for kids, Dr. Seuss created colorful characters and inspired generations of children of all ages to explore the joys of reading. Each year, March 2 commemorates the famous author's birthday by engaging children across the nation in reading activities throughout the day and week.
On Friday, Lakeview students had parties to celebrate Dr. Seuss and their love of reading and also had guests read to them. It was an extremely busy day that that couldn't have been done without the help and organization of Mrs. Huizing, our school media specialist!
Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Although children across the country celebrate reading and literature on March 2 each year, let's continue to stress to our children that reading is a lifelong celebration that should never come to an end.

Technology Corner

It is tax season and threat actors target taxpayers and their data. Threat actors are after W-2 information and personally identifiable information such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, bank account or credit card numbers, and drivers' license numbers. With this information, threat actors can file fraudulent tax returns to collect refund money and engage in other identity theft schemes. According to the IRS, tax-related scams meant to steal data or money via social engineering tactics increased 60 percent between 2017 and 2018. For information on common tax scams and ways to protect your data during tax season, review this post from the NJCCIC -  Tax Scams and Identity Theft: What You Need to Know.
