With fall weather comes much work to complete Centennial Trail projects before construction season closes:

1.  Flood damage repair done on Centennial Trail miles 6.5 to 8 is moving ahead
Major flood damage from 2017 will be repaired soon!
on short notice, so FEMA funding will not be lost.  The Centennial Trail will be closed for repairs from Monday October 29 through November 30 between Barker Road and Flora Road in the City of Spokane Valley.

Detour information:  Trail users may bypass this closed section at the Barker Road trailhead by taking Barker Road south to E. Riverway Avenue and turning right, then turning left on E. Montgomery Avenue until it makes a 90 degree turn and becomes Flora Road.  At that curve, there is Centennial Trail access to the right.  Users coming from west of the closure may exit at Flora Road and head east on Montgomery Avenue until it intersects with E. Riverway Avenue, where they may turn right until the Barker Road intersection.  At Barker Road, turn left and access the Centennial Trail at the Barker Road trailhead.
Sidewalk upgrades are in place at Mission Avenue, where the Centennial Trail crosses the street.

2.  Mile 20-21 Mission Park Phase 1 renovation of the Centennial Trail, parking lot and pedestrian crossing at Mission Avenue should be completed within the next two weeks.

3.  Mile 22-23 in Riverfront Park remains closed during construction, but the Centennial Trail between King Cole Bridge and the orange Howard Street Promenade has been paved!

Growing Trail Connections

Our October FCT Board Meeting was a walking field trip from Liberty Park, along
City of Spokane Engineer, Dan Buller, explains the Ben Burr and Centennial Trail connection.
the Ben Burr Trail, across the Iron Bridge and north to Mission Park.  Seeing how Ben Burr Trail and the Centennial Trail connect between E. Front Avenue (just east of Schade Building in the University District), E. Spokane Falls Blvd. and the south end of Don Kardong Bridge was an exciting revelation.  Signs are needed to inform the public about this recent connection.  We will donate several "Keep Right, Pass Left/15 mph. signs to the effort and encourage the City of Spokane to pull a comprehensive wayfinding plan together so these connections are easy to navigate.

and clean-up every year.  One volunteer who works closely with Riverside State Park Volunteer Coordinator, Danny Murphy, is Mark Lloyd, a resident of the City of Spokane Valley.  On his own time and at his own expense, Mark regularly cleans up and dumps trash found along the Centennial Trail and Spokane River.  He reports that this summer has been especially bad for garbage and illegal camping.  Thank you for your work, Mark!
