The Darkness to Light walk will take place starting from the Centre 2000 parking lot on September 12, 2020 from 6:30AM through to 9AM, you are welcome to start at any time in those hours so that we don’t have a crowd around the signage or along the paths.

We will be taking extra precautions this year due to COVID-19. This includes inviting a staggered start for participant cohorts/groups, sanitizing surfaces at the washrooms, and requiring at least one person per cohort to register prior to the walk. The registration information will only be used in the event that contact tracing by AHS is required.

We will not have access to Centre 2000 this year; however, washrooms will be available at the next parking lot along the walk.

As people arrive, they will be greeted by volunteers and staff who will explain the walk process, welcome you and check registration. Once completed, participants are able to begin their walk. We ask that all participants remain in their groups during the walk and maintain a 6 foot distance between themselves and other groups.

We will keep the signage along the route until 9am so you can start later, we will not be holding a gathering after the walk or offering a light breakfast this year, please bring your own water or snack. What we will be doing is acknowledging you are part of suicide prevention awareness in our community, that you are part of a community who cares and wants to know more about what is happening and how to advocate for getting help, and making every effort to keep you physically and mentally safe.

If you would like to continue your conversation, take the day to do some self-care and maybe go out for breakfast afterwards. Here’s a list of some restaurants that are open for breakfast, though however your day goes, know that you are a part of a global movement of suicide prevention awareness.

Zachary Kay is a local singer-songwriter who has garnered a cult following in the Peace Country Region with his band, The Northbloods.

His latest original song, 'Strange Dream', was commissioned by The Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, alongside our Exhibition Partner, Revolution Place, for 'The Curve : Community Art Installation'. We are proud to acquire it as a permanent fixture in our Permanent Collection once the exhibition is over.

'Strange Dream' is a reflection of the unexpected emotions associated with quarantine isolation. Drawing from his own experiences, Zachary has done his best to capture the strained optimism and gnawing uncertainty that permeate these strange times.

Here is a clip of his song on our Facebook page:

The CMB Grande Prairie Branch was established in June 2019 with partner Brock Clement. After more than 12 years working as a commercial insurance broker, he was ready for a new opportunity. Brock knows that life is full of surprises and seized the opportunity to take his passion to the next level. He is extremely committed to his clients, always giving them the best service and the best price. Not only is Brock committed to his career, he is a family man as well, married to his wife Lindsay and together they raise their three young children.

Within the first year of the established CMB Grande Prairie Branch, Blake Clement decided to join forces with brother Brock. Blake worked as a commercial insurance broker for more than three years and felt it was time to take his career into his own hands and become a partner with CMB. He spent the early part of his life, playing hockey at University of Calgary, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, in Law and Society. Blake is married to his wife Samantha and together they raise their two children.

This branch is an opportunity for CMB to have “Boots on the ground” locally; and is an opportunity for Brock and Blake to make a difference in a new way for their family, friends, and community. Their goal is to give back and make a positive difference in the Grande Prairie community by supporting foundations and charities that aligns with their values. They are proud local supporters of the Grande Prairie Chamber of Commerce, Festival of Trees, Tiny Hands of Hope Foundation, Grande Prairie Stampede and STARS Foundation. They are always looking for ways to contribute positively by helping within the Grande Prairie, and surrounding communities.

Our CMB team has a combined 500+ years diverse commercial insurance experience. They have the knowledge and support to ensure that they provide an extraordinary client experience. You can expect a passionate, tenacious and dedicated team to take care of all of your insurance needs. We serve not only Grande Prairie & area, but also Peace Country, Fox Creek, Valley view, Whitecourt & surrounding area. As well, a strong presence in Fort St. John and Northern BC.
