On behalf of the Morgan Hill City Council, the City Leadership Team and all Morgan Hill teammates we sincerely wish you and your family warm and wonderful holidays! We look forward to serving the community in the year ahead and wish all of you a prosperous 2019!
A reminder that city offices will be closed for the holiday furlough beginning Monday, December 24 through January 1, 2019. City offices will open again on Wednesday, January 2. All essential and emergency city services will be available as usual throughout the furlough.
The next City Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2018.
This will be the last Weekly 411 of the year. We'll be taking the next two weeks off. The first Weekly 411 for 2019 will be available, Sunday, January 13, 2019

|
December 19, 2018 City Council Meeting
The City Council accepted grant of $140,249.80 from the State of California Hazard Mitigation Program to assist in the purchase an emergency backup generator for the Centennial Recreation Center.
The City Council accepted a donation from the Community Law Enforcement Foundation in the amount of $25,439, for the purchase of ballistic plates and carriers for first responders, enhanced communication equipment for our tactical team, and integration costs for a community engagement and evaluation program.
The City Council approved the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's funding agreement for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District TFCA grant program for up to $65,100 towards the construction of the Main Avenue Bike Lane and Sidewalk Project.
The City Council continued the approval of the HDR Engineering Inc. contract for grade separation study to a future meeting.
The City Council approved the Magical Bridge Morgan Hill Playground concept design.

Butterfield Tree Planting |
 The City of Morgan Hill has contracted with Mike Davis Landscape Services to plant and install irrigation to 221 new oak trees along the southern end of Butterfield Blvd and along Railroad Ave.
The selected trees will cool the community, provide a safer environment for residents and visitors, reduce air pollution, and create a more pleasant area to view from home or in passing. Oak varieties planted include Valley, Coast Live, Holly, Oregon White, and Blue.

Morgan Hill Police Department Accepts a New Public Safety Mobile Command Vehicle
|
 On Friday December 21st, the Morgan Hill Police Department took delivery of its new public safety command vehicle.
Emergency events, such as wildland/urban fires, floods, earthquakes and other large-scale events require a multi-agency response that can include mutual-aid from fire, police, sheriff and state and federal emergency groups. The public safety command vehicle will provide the south county residents with a rapid response to such events and provide the incident commander with the tools needed for communication, coordination and control of an emergency.
Additionally, the command vehicle will be utilized regionally during large public events such as the Taste of Morgan Hill, Mushroom Mardi-Gras and the Gilroy Garlic Festival to provide public safety support and communications.

Morgan Hill's Holiday Lakes Estates Homeowners Association Earns National Recognition
|
 Efforts to reduce the vulnerability of homes and landscapes to wildfire have earned the Morgan Hill's Holiday Lakes Estates Homeowners Association, the Firewise Communities/USA® recognition status from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Firewise® is a nationwide initiative that provides formal recognition to communities for taking actions to protect people and properties from the risk of fire in the wildland/urban interface (WUI). It's a framework for communities and neighborhood associations that take strides to create resiliency against wildfire by adopting and implementing the Firewise® program's criteria.
The Holiday Lakes Estates Homeowners Association worked with the Morgan Hill Fire Department and CAL FIRE to complete a community wildfire hazard assessment and developed an action plan that produced risk reduction benefits to the residents and their homes. Implementation of their plan has begun and will continue as part of the program's annual renewal requirements

All are welcome!
St. Catherine's Church, in partnership with Martha's Kitchen in San Jose, serves a hot meal every Monday evening in the Parish Center from 6 to 7 pm. Suppers are open to all who'd like to join for a good meal and good company.

Th ere will be a Ham Cram and Exam opportunity on February 2nd, 2019 in Morgan Hill. It will be held at the Morgan Hill Police Department Training Room.
This is the class for the Technician or General level license followed by the test. A test-only option is also available for all levels: Technician, General or Amateur Extra.

WATERING IS LIMITED TO
WEDNESDAYS ONLY

Water is always a precious resource in Morgan Hill and with this in mind, our permanent watering restrictions have been designed to best manage the City's potable water supply. These restrictions will help us avoid or minimize the effects of drought, climate change and the unreliability of the imported water infrastructure that serves the City of Morgan Hill.
From November 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019, watering is limited to Wednesdays only.
- Irrigation is allowed before 9 AM or after 7 PM
- Watering is limited to no more than 15 minutes per station
- Watering returns to the three day a week schedule on April 1, 2018

2019 Point-in-time Homeless Census and Survey Needs Volunteers |
The 2019 Point-in-Time Homeless Census and Survey will take place in Morgan Hill on Tuesday, January 29th from 4:30am - 10:00am, and we are looking for volunteers to help count!
What is the Point-in-Time Count?
All jurisdictions receiving federal funding to provide housing and services for homeless populations through McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grant are required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to conduct a biennial Point-in-Time count of unsheltered and sheltered homeless individuals and families. The count must happen within the last ten days of January and all data must be tied to one night.
Why does the Point-in-Time Count matter?
Point-in-Time Count data are the primary data used for federal funding allocations and national estimates of homelessness. The numbers reported by your community are used by the US Interagency Council on Homelessness and all federal departments including Housing and Education. PIT Count numbers are also most often cited by local strategic plans, state, county and city government and the media.

Morgan Hill Unified School District Announces a Vacancy on the Board of Education |
As announced on December 7, 2018, a vacancy will be created on the Morgan Hill Unified School District Board of Education when Board Member Teresa Murillo's resignation becomes effective on January 31, 2018.
The Board will be accepting applications to fill this position at the district office daily starting December 17, 2018 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and ending January 15, 2019. Interested persons must submit a letter of no more than 200 words expressing interest in the Board position. A complete copy of the application will be available at the office of the Superintendent, Morgan Hill Unified School District, 15600 Concord Circle in Morgan Hill. Please note, the district office will be closed December 24 until January 2, 2019.
