National Honor Society 2019

Congratulations to the 39 students who were inducted into the Bishop Watterson chapter of the National Honor Society this past Sunday!

Class of 2023 Parent Meeting
We will go over class placement, how to register for electives, and important dates, among other things, in this meeting for incoming freshman parents on Monday, March 11.
 
We are offering the same session at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in Dominican Hall. Parents can choose which time to attend.
Eagle Store
The Eagle Store is open on regular-schedule days during lunch, from 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Open for Class of 2023 Meeting

The store will also be open from 6:30-7:30 p.m. during the Class of 2023 parent meeting on Monday, March 11.
Fill Up the Truck is BACK!
Fill Up the Truck is our friendly competitive food drive to see which teams can raise the most food and toiletry items for local Catholic Charities. This year we will be supporting St. Stephen's Community House (March 22) and St. Francis Outreach (April 5). Both agencies have asked for a big push of toiletry items, pasta, and peanut butter. We thank you in advance for your support of these student driven food drives!   
Grandparents Day
Grandparents' Day is Friday, April 26, 2019. All students are welcome to bring their grandparents for a fun day at school! The menu is yogurt bar, sausage links, potatoes, muffins, pastries, donuts and fruit juice, milk and coffee. Activities include the annual BWHS Art Show, pictures with grandchildren, science demonstrations, choir and band concerts, and Bingo with prizes. Grandparents are welcome to meet the teachers and tour the facilities. Yearbook Order Deadline

The deadline to order a 2018-19 yearbook is April 10. We highly recommend you place your order by this date as we will have very limited quantities of extras when they arrive next fall.

Jazz Night Out
Registration is now open for the band program’s Jazz Night Out, scheduled for Friday, May 3 at Scioto Reserve Country Club. It’s an evening of live music featuring our Jazz Band, dinner, and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the BWHS band program. Click on the button to register.

Attention Senior Athletes
If you would like to be considered for end-of-year Scholar Athlete Scholarships and meet the requirements listed below, contact Mr. Etgen in the Athletic Office for a form by Friday, March 8.
  • Must be a graduating senior, class of 2019

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.25 or higher

  • Have taken either the ACT or SAT tests

  • Have received a minimum of 3 varsity letters in the same sport or 4 varsity letters combined of any two or more sports.

  • You are not receiving any athletic scholarships (full or partial) to an NCAA Division I or II institution.

  • You are not an appointee to a military academy

AP Test Registration Now Open
Students who plan to take AP tests this spring must register for their tests online. After completing the online form, please submit a copy of your confirmation page plus your check for payment to Mrs. Kirby in the guidance office. The deadline to register and submit payment is March 15.


Senior Scholarship Award Letters
As students receive scholarship award letters from colleges and universities to which they have applied, please have them give a copy to their counselor.

Junior ACT Rescheduled to March 12
We have rescheduled the juniors ACT exam (no writing) for Tuesday, March 12. Freshmen, sophomores and seniors will not have school that day.

Juniors will arrive at the normal time and will be dismissed at approximately 12:30 p.m. Anyone arriving after the exam has begun will not be permitted to test that day, per ACT guidelines.

Also due to the rescheduling, the finals originally scheduled for March 12 will be moved to March 8.

April Kairos Signups Underway
This optional retreat is April 9-12 at Sts. Peter and Paul Retreat Center, with students leaving after school on Tuesday, April 9 and returning by 6 p.m. on Friday, April 12.
 
Kairos is an optional 3 ½ day retreat designed to allow students to reflect on their lives and their relationships with others and with God. Over the past several years, our students have shared that Kairos is one of their most meaningful and memorable experiences from their time at Bishop Watterson. Some students have called the experience life changing.
 
Registration for the fall retreat closes on Thursday, March 21 to allow us time to complete our preparations. The cost for the retreat is $275 but scholarships are available by contacting Mrs. Simmonds.

Make Plans for 2019 NCYC
Join the pilgrimage to the National Catholic Youth Conference with 25,000 high school youth from around the country. Hosted on Nov. 21-24, 2019 in Indianapolis at the Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium, this conference features amazing Catholic speakers, powerful prayer experiences and uplifting praise and worship music. The band For King and Country will be featured one evening. Students will also participate in various workshops, attend Mass and have the opportunity to participate in service experiences and to meet and talk with Catholic evangelists, musicians and representatives from various religious orders.  
We will have the final cost on March 1 after our diocesan hotel has been assigned but the anticipated cost will be approximately $550 and can be paid over the next six months. Complete registration information will be available in an upcoming Watterson Wednesday News.
Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference
The Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference "Strengthened and Sent" will be hosted at Bishop Watterson on March 10 from 10 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The cost is $30. Students can register with their parish youth ministry. For more information go to:  https://columbuscatholic.org/DCYC
40 Days for Life
40 Days for Life begins on Ash Wednesday, March 6, and runs through Palm Sunday, April 14. We will be praying in front of Planned Parenthood, located at 3255 E. Main St., on Sunday, March 17 and Sunday, April 14 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on both days. There is plenty of residential parking just east of the clinic. Questions? Eagle Gala Tickets and Sponsorship Opportunities are available to purchase! Join us Sunday, April 28 at The Exchange at Bridge Park for a fun evening featuring a sit-down dinner, raffle, live and silent auctions and more. Gather your friends for a night to celebrate Bishop Watterson, learn more about the Dominican Program, and Deacon Campbell’s mission to make a Catholic Education available to all kids. Dress Down Deal
This year we are again giving families the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Gala by participating in the Dress Down Deal. For a $25 donation all students in a family will receive two dress down days, on March 21 and March 22 (the two days before spring break). To participate, click on the button below, then Dress Down Deal to contribute online or bring cash to your homeroom rep. All proceeds benefit tuition assistance and the Dominican Program, our program that offers learning and emotional support to students.
