Statement on Jacob Blake
Last week, Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton issued a statement to the Evanston/Skokie community regarding the shooting of Jacob Blake, systemic racism, and our continued commitment to equity in District 65. This message was timely as it was published on August 28, the date that marks the anniversary of the tragic death of Emmett Till and the historic March on Washington, culminating in the “I Have a Dream” speech by Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As Dr. Horton stated, “Evanston/Skokie School District 65 is locking arm and arm with the African American community in our pursuit for justice!”

2020 Evanston Experimental Showcase
We always knew our students were stars...this just confirms it! King Arts middle school students had the opportunity to present films that they created for the third annual 2020 Evanston Experimental Film Showcase. The showcase is a collaboration between local artists and students who reside in Evanston and was curated and organized by Joyy Norris, Mat Rappaport and Anne Hayden Stevens for Side/Lot. A special shoutout to District 65 Arts Department Chair, Nan Stein, for helping to showcase our students’ work! See below for a photo of the event. A drive-in movie theater experience was created for families to view the showcase from their cars!
