Shaker Heights Board of Education Announces Superintendent Finalists
The Board of Education has named two finalist candidates in the District’s search for our next Superintendent.

The finalists are:
  • Dr. David Glasner, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction of Shaker Heights Schools and Interim Principal of Shaker Heights High School
  • Ms. Elizabeth Kirby, Chief of School Strategy and Planning at Chicago Public Schools

Dr. Glasner is the Interim Principal of Shaker Heights High School and the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Shaker Heights Schools. As Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Glasner is responsible for development and implementation of District curriculum and instructional practices. Dr. Glasner also served as the Principal of Shaker Heights Middle School from July 2014-June 2018. Prior to joining Shaker Heights Schools, Dr. Glasner served as principal of the Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law, a public high school in New York. He was also a high school social studies teacher with the New York City Department of Education. Dr. Glasner holds a B.A. and an M.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in social studies education from Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as administrative certification from the College of Saint Rose. Ms. Kirby has served as the Chief of School Strategy and Planning at Chicago Public Schools since July 2015. In this role, she provides strategic guidance to 656 district, charter and contract schools. Prior to this work, she was a Network Chief, where she was responsible for implementing school improvement plans to drive student achievement in two Chicago Public School networks—one that served 18,000 high school students and another that served 18,000 elementary school and high school students. Ms. Kirby, who grew up in the Shaker-Buckeye neighborhood and graduated from Hawken School, has spent much of her career with Chicago Public Schools, starting first as a history teacher at Olive-Harvey Middle College High School before she transitioned to administrative roles as Assistant Principal and Principal at Kenwood Academy. Ms. Kirby holds a B.A., Special Concentration in Urban Studies from Harvard University and an M.A. in Social Science from the University of Chicago. Read Ms. Kirby’s resume.

Both Dr. Glasner and Ms. Kirby will participate in day-long meetings with District administrators, teachers, staff and students and attend one of two public meetings in the High School Upper Cafeteria from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12 and 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Both finalists will be introduced to Shaker Heights Schools families, staff and students at the public meetings.

Recorded video of the meetings will be available for community members to watch after both candidates’ meetings are complete. The Board will also solicit feedback from all stakeholders prior to making its final decision.
