"Strong Is What We Make Each Other"
Multigenerational Service
This Sunday's service will present a story about Hare and Monkey muddling through a misunderstanding and what they discover about competition and working together.
What might the gifts to community be? Storytellers and animal actors from the congregation and family ministry program, and the Adult Choir and a percussion instrument or two will join the Ministers and Director of Family Ministry for this multigenerational service.

Daylight Saving Time Starts Sunday

Daylight saving time starts at 2 a.m. this Sunday, March 10. Remember to set your clocks forward one hour on Saturday night, March 9!

Potluck and Coffeehouse

Join Us for Good Food, Friendship and Music at the Saturday, March 9 FUUSB Potluck and Coffeehouse

March's lion crouched down, with no lamb in sight
We patiently await the return of the light
And while we still barely feel the glow of the sun
Let's share our own warmth, food, music, and fun

Join us at the UU this Saturday night
To feast and make music, and share smiles bright
We'll eat, tell stories, laugh and sing
At our monthly potluck and coffeehouse thing

We start with a potluck, right about six
You don't have to hassle, don't get in a fix
Bring a hot entrée, a salad or stew
If you can, something yummy, to nourish a few

Sign up, if you're psyched, for the open mic
Or sit back and listen, if that's what you'd like
Share a poem, a story, a solo, or song
Tap your feet, clap your hands, or perhaps hum along

All ages are welcome, all talents are relished
It's a pretty sweet scene, don't think I embellish
There's really not much, that you must do
Just one thing's important, and that's to bring you!

What : Our Monthly FUUSB Potluck and Coffeehouse
Who : Everyone! Friends and family  welcome
Where : The Parlors, First UU Society of Burlington
When : Saturday, March 9, 6-8:30 p.m.

At the end of the 8th Grade OWL double session, next year's 9th graders will meet with Youth Ministry Coordinator Mary Loomis, and some members of the YUUTH group, in one of the OWL classrooms, while an information session is held for their parents in the other. (1:00-1:30, Parents - Whitney Young Room, Students - Susan B. Anthony Room)

NOW IS THE TIME for our 2019 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN!
null Nancy Knox

During our annual stewardship campaign, we raise more than half of our budget! At First UU, our Board and staff create our budget each spring, so we need accurate information of what our members plan to give next year. Your pledge is vital to planning the great work we can do in the coming year! This reflects our shared covenant of stewardship for our First UU Society.

Here's what to expect:
  • Celebration Sunday  - March 17 - T he kick-off, when we celebrate our beloved First UU Society, and ask you to pledge.
  • Pledge cards and brochures will be available at and after March 17 services.
  • Campaign runs from mid-March to mid-April when we pledge for 2019-20.
  • Gratitude Sunday - April 14 - When we THANK YOU for pledging!
  • Pledge payments will be made between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020.
When the campaign starts,  please - pledge early and as generously as you can, for your circumstances - consider increasing your pledge if you can. (Thank you!)
You'll be able to pledge online OR fill out a pledge card.

Not sure how much to pledge? Check out the UUA Suggested Fair Share Guide at goo.gl/5rBziQ
and  remember - it's a goal.

SPEAKING OF STEWARDSHIP...
null Nancy Knox

The First UU Stewardship Team seeks inspiring quotes for this year's campaign. Please tell us, in a couple of sentences, your thoughts on one (or more!) of these prompts:
  • What are you grateful for at our First UU Society?
  • What are you passionate about at First UU?
  • Now is the time ....for what (relative to First UU?)?
  • What inspires your generosity here at First UU?
Please email your comments to the team at [email protected]

From Our Interim Senior Minister
Friends,

The most recent issue of the UU World, our Association publication, has two articles related to the transgender experience. One is a call to action from TRUUsT, our transgender religious professionals' organization, and the other is an article by a cisgender woman. By centering the thoughts of a cisgender person about trans experience in many harmful ways, the article has caused hurt to transgender individuals. All of us need to be listening to marginalized individuals about the nature of their journeys. Most of all, we need to figure out how to be sensitive, aware allies who can question our own biases and value the gifts and talents of every individual as we seek to create a truly whole Beloved Community.

I hope you will follow the link below and read this statement given by TRUUsT in response to the article. To trans individuals in our congregation, please know that your experience, expressed in your own voices, is what matters most. Know that your ministers care very much and are committed to the work we all have to do to be truly welcoming and inclusive.

Blessings,
Rev. Susan Milnor
Interim Senior Minister

Drop-in Parents Chalice Circle - March 24
Sarah Russell

The March Parents Chalice Circle is March 24 from 10:10-11:10 a.m. downstairs.  Please look on the white board for the exact location. The Nursery knows that parents are meeting so will have extra coverage for all ages. This is a pilot so after the May meeting we will evaluate what to change. Please spread the word among other parents. This is an opportunity to explore a spiritual topic with other parents.

Proactive & Gracious
Sunday, March 24, 12:15-2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary

Please join visiting presenter Jennifer Greene of Long Island, NY, as she screens  "Cesar Chavez: Respect for All", an inspiring 22-minute video on the universal rights advocacy of Cesar Chavez, featuring his great-grand-niece, Genesis Butler, a 9-year-old girl of African American, Apache, and Hispanic descent. This will be followed by a talk, "Heeding Genesis & Eating for a Small, Hot, and Hurting Planet: What Gets In Our Way?"

Light refreshments provided. See posters for more detail or contact Suzie McCoy,  [email protected]  or Valerie Wood-Lewis,  [email protected] .

Bereavement Group
purple-water-flowers.jpg
The First UU Society of Burlington Pastoral Care Associates team invites you to a Bereavement group which will begin on Tuesday, April 2. The group will be held on Tuesday evenings in April and May from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

No one is immune to losses. It comes in many forms such as loss of a loved one by death, a miscarriage, or a suicide. It may be an anticipatory loss or loss of a job, finances, a sense of self, and much more.

If you are interested in attending, please register  here.

If you have any questions please call Brenda Dupuis at 802-338-7196.

8th Grade OWL Facilitators Needed
Erika Reif, Family Ministry Assistant

Our 8th Grade OWL program has been a great success this year, thanks to the dedication of our volunteer facilitators. We need more trained individuals to continue to offer this valuable service to our community!

Here is an opportunity to make a real difference, by helping us provide comprehensive sexuality education, not just to the youth of our congregation, but to some of their classmates as well.

Consider becoming a trained 7-9th Grade OWL Facilitator, by attending a weekend training in Auburndale, Massachusetts on May 3-5. (Please note, OWL Facilitators are required to be 25 years of age or older.) FUUSB will cover the fees, which include room and board, for incoming members of our OWL team.

Spots fill up fast, so contact Andrea at
[email protected] or 862-5630 X 28, as soon as possible for more information about our OWL program. More information on the facilitator training can be found here.

We will also have a table in the Parlors after the services over the next few weeks if you need help registering for the walk or sponsoring the team.  Thank you for your support!
