On Sunday morning, Oct. 21 the San Francisco 49ers unveiled a statue of Dwight Clark and Joe Montana to commemorate "The Catch," the touchdown pass in the 1982 NFC Championship Game which led to San Francisco's first Super Bowl. The sculpture is comprised of two parts, featuring Joe Montana with his arms raised in celebration and 23 yards away is a leaping Dwight Clark, catching the pass with his fingertips. Clark passed away from ALS on June 4 at the age of 61. Photo by Rich Yee. |

San Francisco 49ers 10 vs. Los Angeles Rams 39
Miscues again played a critical role, leading to 24 points off of turnovers, in the 49ers' 39-10 defeat to the Los Angles Rams on Sunday, Oct. 21 at Levi's Stadium. 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard was intercepted twice and fumbled once, accounting for only one touchdown
|
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald (99) was an incessant presence in the 49ers backfield and could not be stopped. The former No. 1 Rams' draft pick had 4 sacks,
nine tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, as well as six tackles for losses.

49ers tight end George Kittle accounted for San Francisco's lone touchdown with a 10-yard reception just before the end of the first half. Kittle finished the game with five receptions, good for 98 yards, and was an offensive bright spot. The 49ers next travel to Phoenix on Sunday, Oct. 28 for a date with the Arizona Cardinals (1-6) at 1:25 p.m. To view a complete photo album, visit our Facebook Page and be sure to LIKE us or visit www.ultimatesportsguide.net.

Joe Montana spoke warmly of his favorite receiver, recalling how Dwight would have handled the unveiling of "The Catch" statue. "He'd be whispering in my ear: 'You know they didn't call it 'The Throw' for a reason,' " the quarterback joked.

Oakland running back
Marshawn Lynch has been a bright spot to the Raiders offense this year, running with a purpose and passion feared by league defenders. Unfortunately Lynch has suffered a groin injury and will be sidelined for a month or longer. There is even talk of Lynch being placed on the injured reserved list, which in effect will end his 2018 season.
|
The Oakland Raiders' next game is at home against the Indianapolis Colts (2-5) on Sunday, Oct. 28 at the Coliseum, with game time at 1:05 p.m. The Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, making a comeback from injuries the last two years, is enjoying a solid season.

Dodgers win NLCS against Brewers -- Advance to 2018 World Series
The sleeping bats of the Los Angeles Dodgers finally came back to life during the deciding Game 7 of the National League Championship Series to defeat the host Milwaukee Brewers, 5-1, at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday, Oct. 20. Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig (seen here in 2016 at AT&T Park) hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to cap off a night that saw him register three hits in four plate appearances. Coupled with a second-inning, two-run homer by Dodger center fielder Cody Bellinger, who won the series' Most Valuable Player award, Puig's blast advanced Los Angeles into their second straight World Series appearance with a four games to three victory over Milwaukee in the best-of-seven series. The Fall Classic against the Boston Red Sox, winners of the American League pennant and holders of home field advantage, begins on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in Boston's Fenway Park and airs at 5:09 p.m. on FOX.

Red Sox
defeat Astros in five games to win American League pennant
On Thursday, Oct. 18 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX closing pitcher Craig Kimbrel of the Boston Red Sox (seen here in 2016 at AT&T Park) took the mound against the Houston Astros in the bottom of the ninth inning, assumed this classic stance as he looked in for the pitch sign, and then struck out two of the three batters he faced to complete a 4-1 win and send the Red Sox into the 2018 World Series. Boston closed out the best-of-seven American League Championship Series in five games by a 4-1 margin, with center fielder Jackie Bradley, Jr. earning the Most Valuable Player honors for his multiple home runs and stellar defense. By winning 108 games during the 2018 regular season, Boston has earned the home field advantage in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers of the National League, who won 92 games. Games 1 and 2 of the Fall Classic will be played at Fenway Park in Boston, beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 5:09 p.m. All games will air on FOX.

The Golden State Warriors opened their 2018 season with two wins (Oklahoma City Thunder, 108-100; Utah Jazz, 124-123) and a loss (Denver Nuggets, 100-98) in pursuit of another NBA championship with four All-Star starters and a fifth waiting in the wings. Sports Prep Star -- Jackson Pavitt
Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa -- Football -- Junior
It would be hard to find a more efficient high school quarterback than Jackson Pavitt and what he has accomplished through Cardinal Newman's first nine games. His sparkling performance against Maria Carrillo-Santa Rosa on Oct. 19 was a perfect example of what he's been doing week-in and week-out. Pavitt completed 75 percent of his passes (9 of 12) for 236 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Cardinals to a 55-10 victory over the visiting Pumas. On the season, he's completed 73 percent of his throws (108 of 148) for 1,840 yards, 23 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He's also rushed 73 times for 378 yards and nine more scores. Cardinal Newman's win over Carrillo pushed its overall record to 8-1 on the year and clinched at least a share of the North Bay League-Oak championship. The Cardinals can win the league outright by beating Analy-Sebastopol on Oct. 26. Photo credit: Ike Dodson

The Fan-Controlled Football League is becoming a reality
|
|
Yes, it will happen. I just don't know when. Let's not forget Feb. 6, 1971 when astronaut Alan Shepard used a makeshift six-iron to hit a golf ball on the moon. The Outer Space Race between Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Tesla's Elon Musk is expanding the galaxy everyday. Will either of these tech titans be willing to pay the NFL's multi-billion dollar expansion fee for a team at Tranquility Base?
"The Times They are a Changing" in the sports world -- remember that
* ESPN wasn't on the air until 1979
* The first video game of Madden Football didn't kick off until 1988
* You couldn't Google up any knowledge until 1998
* The creativity of a Tweet from a Twit wasn't available until March of 2006
* Uber didn't roll until March 2009 and world peace wasn't achieved until........more on that later.........much later
*
There wasn't Fake News until 2016
Technologies that are impacting sports and entertainment today
* Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Reality Reality are all leading to the growth of Immersive Technology. Being there without being there
* AI -- Artificial Intelligence. These jobs are paying at the highest levels in the tech industry and the sports industry is defined by artificial intelligence
* Analytics and Metrics -- A rule in today's world of sports numbers: If you can't metricize or analyse it, move on
* Enhanced broadcast technologies -- Think of this as electronic boob tubes for boobs on every type of digital device
* Convertible stadiums -- Push a button and go from baseball to football to soccer to concerts
* Esports are now a multi-billion dollar business, on the path to disrupting existing stick and ball sports.
*
Intelligent Wearables -- Anyone wearing striped yoga pants should be arrested, along with those checking their fitbits after working out for four minutes.
* Drones -- Everywhere in every aspect of games, including being dropped into your seat by an Uber-Drone
*
Sports Betting -- It's here......Ready, Set, Bet. "Show me the money!"
* REDs
(Robotic Enhanced Devices) -- We have seen the impact of PEDs. How will sports decision makers weigh in on
REDS
inserted into the athletes of the future?
"Hey, look at Jimmy's new elbow. He now throws a 145 mph heater and he's only 15."
"Have you seen my daughter, Bonnie, who plays high school hoops. She dunked eight times and brought down the rim in her last game, thanks to her new spring-loaded ACLs."
Here's a real life example of tomorrow meeting today in the galaxy of sports
FCFL -- the Fan Controlled Football League (FCFL) (
www.fcfl.io).
Soon there will be an entire American football league built on the premise that fans should be able to choose the players and coaches that make up each of the eight inaugural teams and even pick the teams' offensive plays. The innovative league is based on the belief that fans will enjoy a product that feels more like a video game than a traditional football-watching experience.
The Fan Controlled Football League
is centered on the fact that it is powered on the Ethereum blockchain with a newly developed crypto currency -- the FAN Token -- serving as the digital currency of the league and a tool for ranking the voting power of fans when it comes to drafting players, picking coaches and calling the plays that the seven-on-seven teams carry out on the field. Each fan will be required to pick one team to support and will thereafter be ranked, based on FAN Token ownership.
The eight FCFL teams will all share the same "high tech production stadium-studio" which is intended to create a strong digital product for fans who will be watching on mobile devices, both in, and eventually out of this world.
Andy Dolich has over five decades of leadership in the sports industry, including executive positions in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, pro soccer and lacrosse. Dolich teaches sports business at Stanford's School of Continuing Studies and is co-author of the new book:

After a half century, nothing has changed
by Arif Khatib
Sprinter Tommie Smith came to San Jose University (SJSU) straight from the cotton fields in the San Joaquin Valley and sprinter John Carlos came from the streets of Harlem.
They were among special athletes on the SJSU campus last Wednesday, where it all began 50 years ago.
"It is very sad nationally that two athletes had to do what they were doing to bring attention to racism," said Smith, 74, on Wednesday doing a commemoration of the most iconic occasion in Olympic history. The protest is still with us today, a half century later.

Dr. Harry Edwards, a sociology professor at SJSU, started a movement called Olympic Project for Human Rights and prior to their protest, Carlos and Smith joined the group. "Someone had to come out of the ground like a rare piece of grass to let society know it is not as the picture presents itself," said Carlos, 73.
Wyomia Tyus, who recently released her autobiography,
Tigerbelle, was the first athlete to win consecutive Olympic medals in the 200 meters in 1964 and 1968, and said, "It goes back and forth now between liberals and conservatives; you have two movements against each other."
They are now traveling the country focusing on racial inequality.
