Although the ground was still snow-covered, the School Board on Feb. 28 heard a preview of Summer School 2019.
Dr. Al Voelker, Assistant Superintendent for Academic Services, said that Summer School for grades K-8 will again feature 2-week units centered around Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). The full summer school will be 4 weeks.
High School students may earn a maximum of one credit. Planned offerings include physical education and health, personal finance, enrichment courses, remediation courses for credit recovery, a full-day Edudrone class to earn one credit, and a selection of online learning courses.
Planned Summer School sites are: Ray-Pec High School for grades 9-12; South Middle School for grades 6-8; and three elementary sites (based on enrollment):
- Creekmoor (for students in the Creekmoor and Timber Creek boundaries)
- Eagle Glen (for students in the Eagle Glen, Raymore, and Stonegate boundaries)
- Bridle Ridge (for students in the Bridle Ridge and Peculiar boundaries)
Morning and afternoon bus transportation will be available. High School students who take only one course will need transportation at mid-day.
Summer School dates are still be to determined - in part because of the calendar changes due to makeup days. Summer School enrollment will take place in April.
