Members of our Alumni Panel - ranging in age from high school sophomores to college seniors - shared their memories and impressions of their CSWS education to a full house in a very transormed woodshop (thank you, Parent Guild!). It was an inspiring morning, full of reminiscing and touching insights. If you missed it, we host it every year, so be sure to stop by next time.

A Window into Your Child's Waldorf Classroom Experience
|

Save the Date, CSWS Parents!
Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 15-16
8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Have you ever wondered about your child's experience during their Main Lesson? Here is an opportunity for you to observe the magic of Waldorf teaching in real time as you are guided on a tour through the grades.
Enrollment Director Donna Soldano will lead group tours on Jan. 15 and 16 for current parents who would like to do a "Walk Through the Grades." The Tuesday, Jan. 15th tour will begin
in the 1st grade, continuing on the path to the 3rd, 5th and finally ending in the 7th grade. The following day's tour
will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the lower campus observing the 2nd grade and continue on to visit the 4th, 6th and 8th grades.

Spotlight on ...
New PG Co-chair Carrie Gamble

As an occasional feature, we will be highlighting individuals in our staff, faculty or leadership to better introduce or get to know those who may be new to our school or working behind the scenes. This month we caught up with one of CSWS's new Parent Guild Co-chairs and Second Grade/KG parent Carrie Gamble.
What is your background?
I grew up in Davis until I was 10, then my family moved to the country in Placer County. I moved away for college living in Santa Rosa & San Francisco. I majored in fine art with an emphasis in painting. After graduating I knew I wanted to merge the two things I enjoyed: children and art. I came back to Sacramento to get my teaching credential. I taught 5th and 6th grade at an inner city school for 8 years. After having my first daughter Kendall I knew I wanted to stay home with her. A couple years later my second daughter Kyla was born. My husband Sean and I loved living in Sacramento, but we began to realize that every weekend we were leaving town to get to nature. We knew we wanted to provide something different for our children and for ourselves. We moved up to the foothills and haven't looked back.
What drew you to Waldorf education?
Having actual first hand experience with the education. I went to Sacramento Waldorf School for a few years, and it made a huge impact on me. Looking back on my childhood education, it was those years at Waldorf that I believe played a big part in forming me into the person I've become. I honestly don't think I would be the same person had I not had those years at Waldorf.
What do you most enjoy about being a part of CSWS?
One of the things I love about being a part of CSWS is the traditions that are so deeply embedded in our community. From Michaelmas, Pumpkin Path, Student Store to May Day and all the sweet events in between. As the year moves forward the customs are comforting, and for me, nostalgic.
What is the school's greatest strength? Its biggest challenge?
The very thing that I feel is our strength is also our challenge. I see a lot of people who care very deeply for our school. Many express that through ideas for change to further positive growth, while others feel protective of the school, cautious of change. Both sides have good intentions, and both sides are looking out for the greater good of the school. In the end we all want our school to succeed. We all want to have happy students, families and teachers.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Take road trips, practice yoga, oil paint and listen to music.
What is something about you that people might be surprised to learn?
I recently started my own business: Art Wanderers. It's a mixed media art studio for children.

Gratitudes
Many thanks to the members of our dedicated Parent Guild who hosted the wonderful community breakfast offering Thursday morning and provided warm
food and drinks for our visiting alumni. It was a perfect way to warm the body and soul on a chilly, festive morning!

Ronson Crowder, who has been tirelessly volunteering his mornings to help transform our upper campus. It's looking wonderful!
Gratefulness also to the
angel family who has been providing a lunch for the faculty and staff on the first Monday of each month. Your generosity and care are so very much appreciated!
Finally, much appreciation to
all the many generous families who offered the priceless gift of their time, talents and resources throughout all of 2018! We could not do it without you!

New Parent-Child Session Beginning in January!
|
|
Please join us for our Parent-Child Program for 3-4 year olds.
The Sunflowers Program is held fully outdoors and designed to help children deepen feelings of confidence; build capacities for learning; develop new communication and problem-solving skills, and strengthen emotional well-being.
Our Day:
- Gather and play
- Morning circle time: singing, movement, finger games and verse
- Nature, crafting, and/or a campus walk, or more play if that is what the day is asking of us
- Snack time (We will supply delicious homemade snack, please let the teacher know of any allergies when registering) and meal clean-up
- Nursery rhyme/nature inspired story and a goodbye song
For younger children (19-36 months), our
Daffodils Program offers interactive play, singing, finger games, story time, snack and craft activities. Parents and children work on projects that rotate between gardening, baking, painting, toy making/craft.
Breathe deep and enjoy parenting support, imaginative play, laughs, and warm meals while you share good conversation with like-minded parents.

Our school is much in need of an
early childhood extended care assistant. We are
seeking a warm, responsible individual to help supervise this program. Experience with young children and knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy is preferred, but not required. The extended care position hours are Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. To meet state licensing requirements, applicants must have 12 ECE units, and be willing to comply with current CPR and First Aid training, clear a Livescan background check, a TB test, and a health screening and comply with current California vaccination requirements.

The College of Teachers is seeking individuals who can act as
substitute teachers. With our pedagogical chair position now vacant, we no longer have a go-to for when our teachers are ill or need to be away for the day for personal or family needs. With the cold and flu season approaching, the College would like to begin compiling a list of people, especially those with a teaching credential or experience working with children, who can support our faculty in this way.
