Heart Walk DC

Blake Real Estate 's Steve Lustgarten and his "Team Blake" colleagues raised over $100,000 to fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke at the Greater Washington Heart Walk on November 4th. After watching close relatives and friends suffer from heart disease and strokes, Steve knew he had to take action. He has been an American Heart Association Board member for over 35 years and has served in various executive positions including Treasurer and Head of the Executive Committee. (He believes it is important to raise money to fund research to help people avoid heart disease, and if affected by it, receive the latest protocols discovered through research.) Steve is continually one of the top individual fundraisers for Heart Walk DC. T his year's Heart Walk takes place November 3rd. Get your team together and start training!

Pratt Contemporaries

In November, JLL's Christine Espenshade was honored as the winner of the March of Dimes Real Estate Heroine of Washington Award for her work with Pratt Contemporaries which she co-founded 10 years ago. Pratt Contemporaries helps promote and fund child and teen literacy programs at the 21 branches of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore City. They host  a variety of social and academic events catering to young professionals including the Annual Black and White Party, a sell-out gala event that raises more than $200,000. In the ten years since its founding, the organization has raised more than $1 million for programs at the Pratt. Christine loves the library and the access it provides to all citizens. She believes young professionals need to understand the importance of philanthropy and that small donations, in addition to the gift of time and talent, can make a large impact on organizations like the Enoch Pratt Library. Community Service Day

Each year, CREBA sponsor,  Washington REIT, dedicates a full work day to community service in the DC region. This year, employees partnered with the Fairfax County Park Authority and the Environmental & Recreation Committee to revitalize Mount Eagle Park in Alexandria, Virginia.  On November 3rd, nearly 100 Washington REIT team members planted 20 trees, painted signs, refurbished the playground, re-dug a volleyball court and cleared two truckloads of debris. The team worked together to finish the 12-acre project throughout the day.  Mount Eagle Park is located less than ½ mile from one of Washington REIT's newest acquisitions, Riverside Apartments, giving the team an opportunity to connect with the surrounding community!
