Dear Colleagues:
In an average year, the College of Dentistry hosts about fifteen receptions at dental meetings scattered across the country. Some, like the Midwinter and Hinman meetings, are always in the same cities, while the ADA and dental specialty meetings move from one big city to another. Each provides an opportunity for us to bring our alumni together so they can connect with their classmates and colleagues. These occasions also allow me to share with alumni all that is going on in the college, including information about our new classes of students, faculty recruits, changes in curriculum, tuition rates, and updates on our new $95 M facility.
Because we promote these events
broadly,
we have an array of alumni
who attend. Until the past couple of years, the
participant mix was fairly similar
each year, especially
in terms of the attendees' graduation years. Most had been out a couple of decades or more, but
very few were recent graduates. That is not the case anymore though
. Each year
we
are see
ing more recent graduates at our receptions,
and it is so gratifying to know
these events appeal to our youngest colleagues.
Their participation at these receptions tells me that even though they have only been out of Postle Hall a few years, they continue to be interested in what is going on in our college. When I speak with them,
these young alums ask me all sorts of questions about
our faculty, the new technology in the school, and progress on
our new facility. I can
see that they are happy to hear about
the things that remain the same in Postle Hall -- and
all the things that are changing for the better.
The increasing number of younger alumni at our receptions also
shows that
our graduating students are grateful for their education at Ohio State and are proud to be Buckeyes. I look forward to seeing more of the new generation
s of graduates as we host receptions, engage alumni, and build on our strong foundations!
