A quick update about January events.
March 2019
Dear  ,

This year is off to a great start for the Club of the Peninsula, and we are looking forward to seeing you at some exciting upcoming events! Here's a look at what's next, followed by club news from January and February:

Refreshments will be served. To ensure we have enough food and beverages on hand, please respond by March 15th.  Admission is free for members of the club and will cost $10 for non-members. The fee will be collected at the door by cash or check. To check your membership status and/or RSVP, please email [email protected]. We will be sharing our hostess' address with those who RSVP closer to the actual event.  If you would like to renew your Club membership, please do so online at our website: https://www.peninsulasmithclubca.org/

Club News

Our Annual Cider Party, a much-beloved tradition, was held on Sunday, January 13th! We were fortunate to welcome prospective students and their families, along with alumnae, current students and recent grads to the Palo Alto home of Laura Selznick '68, to share in hot cider and home baked goodies. We love the story Laura tells each year of the cider ladle passed down to her that we are still lucky enough to be using. This is such a fun and cozy winter tradition, and we hope to see some of the prospective students join the class of 2023 at Smith!

The   Book Club met at the home of Laura Hyatt to discuss When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. Many thanks to Laura for hosting us. We appreciated Kalanithi's maturity and self-awareness and his clear, effective prose, while not quite agreeing with Abraham Vergese that his writing is stunning; it felt a bit too cerebral and didn't fully draw us in. We felt he conveyed well the pain of discovering his way forward was limited, and the dilemma of trying to live what life remained without being able to plan on anything. We agreed he was a remarkable man, and his loss is tragic. Next, we will be discussing  The Perfect Nanny by Leila Slimani on March 20th and Code Girls by Liza Mundy on April 17th.  If you're interested in joining us, please contact Sally Smith '64 for more information.
