GPRA Thanksgiving Match - October 23, 2018
Dear Great Pyrenees Friends,

If only the story of Errol were an isolated incident....but as all of us in GPRA know, we rescue far too many critters from sad situations.  So, get out your tissue before you continue reading...but be reassured there is a happy ending...even if that takes a bit of time to occur.

Errol's early life was miserable. For probably three years, he was kept outdoors in a makeshift tiny enclosure under some shrubbery.  He was ignored and deprived of positive human attention, sufficient food, water or veterinary care.   He tried to escape and did so twice only to be returned to the same horrible conditions. But, the third time was the charm and he found his way to GPRA.

When Errol was examined, tears actually sprang to the eyes of our vet.
Errol had buckshot in his rear leg, was malnourished, heartworm positive, suffering from multiple infections and couldn't walk or put weight on his hind legs as his nails had grown into his foot pads.   As a final insult, he had stuff actually growing in his fur!

But, this is where the story of Errol takes a positive turn. He was fostered by a kind and knowledgeable GPRA foster, Tracy, who nurtured him through the critical first weeks and showered him with care, food and kindness.   Errol had never been in a house and was terrified of many things...especially stairs. Tracy spent hours gaining his trust and teaching him how to function in his new world.

Everyone at GPRA was delighted when Errol was adopted, but unfortunately it wasn't a good match and he was returned. But, GPRA is devoted to our dogs and immediately began a search for a better fit for Errol. After an interim stay with another GPRA foster and a brief stay with GPRA's trainer (any surprise Errol needed some reassurance that food didn't have to be protected?) Errol found his forever home. GPRA fosters, who had a huge hole in their hearts and house after losing their PYR to untreatable liver cancer invited Errol to join their pack.  Errol gratefully accepted the invite and a lovely mutual healing has taken place. Errol has helped ease the pain of loss and with the remarkable resilience of Great Pyrs, Errol has blossomed and has become the well cared for and happy dog he always deserved to be. He has two humans who love him and two pack mates who love to play with him.   He loves his walks but maybe loves dancing even more as he greets his human Eddi every morning by dancing with her.   A nice ending for a boy who once couldn't walk.

Please donate to help us rescue these amazing Gentle Giants and remember every dollar donated during this fundraiser is matched 100%.

Thank you,
