We hope that you have a wonderful, restful holiday. 2019 was a great year for us with two beneficial use impairments submitted for a status change from impaired to not impaired in the river. We're making progress, and if these status changes are approved, we are closer to delisting the river as an Area of Concern.

Great things are planned for 2020. Along with many tree plantings, clean ups and other events planned for 2020, we're looking forward to seeing the construction of a large new habitat creation project at Peche Island in the Detroit River.

New Parkway documentary - Eco- Highway
A video featuring actions, challenges and lessons learned in protecting species at risk and their habitat in the construction of the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway has been released. We are planning a film screening of Eco-Highway in the spring of next year. However, if you are unable to make it to our screening, you can view Eco-Highway here.
Teach me about the Great Lakes
Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant's Dr.  Stuart Carlton has started a new monthly podcast called "Teach Me About the Great Lakes." The purpose of the podcast is to help Carlton - a social scientist who grew up in the South near the Gulf of Mexico-learn about the biology, ecology and natural history of the Great Lakes.  A new episode of  Teach Me About the Great Lakes  will be released on the first Monday of each month. Fishing survey underway
We're interested in knowing what fish people catch and eat from the Detroit River. Your input will provide valuable information to Detroit River Canadian Cleanup (DRCC) staff to help guide future research, education and outreach, monitoring and remediation efforts in the Detroit River and its watershed.

The Detroit River Canadian Cleanup is a partnership between government, industry, academics, as well as environmental and community organizations that work together to improve the Detroit River ecosystem through a Remedial Action Plan. Our goal is to remove the Detroit River from the list of Great Lakes Areas of Concern.
