The month of August signifies the beginning of the school year once again. As we welcome the new academic year, we also welcome any new challenges that this school year may bring us. It's important to set the tone for the school year with your mentee by helping them identify any potential obstacles in the coming year as well as goals they'd like to accomplish. 

Of course, scholastic achievement is inherently important to your student's academic advancement. However, it is also important that your student learns how to communicate and cooperate with others in their environment. If your student is starting at a new middle or high school, let them know that they are going to encounter other students that are different from themselves. Your student may encounter adversity with their peers or instructors, but this is where soft skills come in handy. Encourage your student to use their soft skills, such as communication and team work, to enhance their success in this coming school year.
