Lunch 'n' Learn Webinar: Coping Cat: A Gold-Standard CBT for Child Anxiety

Synopsis: Childhood anxiety disorders are quite common and can be incredibly impairing. The child, the parents, and teachers often feel helpless in the face of anxiety and fear. Moreover, the default parent and teacher responses often inadvertently reinforce the problem. Coping Cat is a gold standard CBT treatment, delivered in a child-friendly, developmentally appopriate format with adult support. This webinar will provide an overview of the Coping Cat and help real-world clinicians apply this treatment. We will discuss ways of applying the Coping Cat to a variety of anxiety presentations and disorders and to youth presenting with multiple problems.

Biography: Dr. Elaina Zendegui is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in cognitive behavior therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. She is an Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and a Clinical Supervisor at Rutgers University, where she supervises student clinicians in the Coping Cat as part of a research study. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Rutgers. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Child Psychology at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, and she completed her internship at Long Island Jewish Hospital/Zucker Hillside Hospital (now Northwell). Her externships were at Bellevue Hospital and the Child Mind Institute. She previously worked as a clinical psychologist in the Montefiore School Health Program and in private practice. Dr. Zendegui’s interests include increasing access to evidence-based treatments, and her clinical work focuses on evidence-based treatments for anxiety and eating disorders.
