With the sounds of Spring also comes ...
Boom Whackers. Children and youth were introduced last Sunday to a "whacky" collaborative musical instrument. These are pitched plastic tubes you get to whack on the floor and make music with your friends. More fun to come.
Paella Dinner: Teen and middle-school families are warmly invited to come have a fun and tasty evening March 23rd. A youth-friendly menu will be served and there will be a supervised game room downstairs. The youth will be invited to come watch the flamenco dance performance. RSVP by buying tickets online. (See info in the
Paella Dinner article.)
We will miss you, Julie. As you probably know, Julie Prentice is moving across the country with her husband to be closer to their family. We will miss her warm generous presence, yet also glad this opportunity has come for closer family ties. Julie has been dedicated to working with and supporting RE as a teacher, team leader, and briefly as the Secretary for the RE Committee.
Welcome,
Rich Cohen - Rich is joining the RE Steering Committee. He is energetic and ready to roll up his sleeves. Please add him to your contact list. You may have met Rich back in 2014 when he was at UUCM previously. Now he is back interested in how to connect parents and families within UUCM.
Fair Trade Chocolate sales this Sunday.
Our source of chocolate is Equal Exchange, a cooperatively owned small company contracting with small farms to have certified fair labor practices. (No slavery for instance.) Equal Exchange donates 10% of its profits to the UU Service Committee. The portion of profits taken locally goes to support the Youth Leadership Fund.
Last chance to start OWL class for children in grades 4-7.

Please sign up for the retreat sooner rather than later.
Together we can.
Alone, I run uphill into the wind against a disharmonious culture of fear and oppression.
Together we can,
Dance a healthy vision into being; creating our own breeze to ripple a new future.

Touch of Beauty is the most fun in spring, because colorful flowers are everywhere! Please choose a date from the list below, and let Sally Schroeder know a Sunday you can participate (a 2nd choice would be helpful). You may arrange flowers ahead of time in your own vase, or bring flowers in a bundle and use one from our ample vase supply in the kitchen!

Women's History Month - Celebrating UUs
|
|
In HONOR of Women's History Month, let us celebrate THREE Unitarians and Universalists in the 19th Century who were agents for change. Let us remember:
-
Olympia Brown
(1835-1926) one of the first woman ministers whose ordination was recognized by the Universalists and who campaigned in Kansas for universal suffrage. Finally 53 years later on November 2, 1920 Olympia Brown voted!
-
Margaret Fuller
(1810-1850), a Unitarian, who played a key role in the Transcendentalist Movement with Ralph Waldo Emerson and wrote the first manifesto for women's equality: Women of the Nineteenth Century, published in 1845.
-
Frances Ellen Watkins Harper
(1825-1911), an African-American and Unitarian, who was a writer of poetry with anti-slavery themes.

Remarkable People for March
|
|
 |
|
Friday, March 15, 7-9 pm Fireside Room
Kristina Gale and Ray Meluch are our Remarkable People for March.
This ongoing series gives us time to learn about each other from the interesting stories of individual lives. Whether you already know them by name or not, you will learn what you don't know in the evening of sharing and community. Each person talks and there is time for questions and general sociability.
You might know Kristina Gale as a Dinners for 8 hostess or a greeter, but not that she started a long-time career before she learned to drive.
You will also learn more about being half-Ingrian, half-Finnish and growing up 10 miles from the border of the Soviet Union.
Ray Meluch is our hip and scientific "sound man" and does magic with our microphones when needed. But there is more to know in his history, including an Oscar.....
Come to the Fireside Room for a Friday evening of sharing, and learning more about our common interests and intriguing differences in life experience.
All are welcome and there will be sustaining snacks too.
And if you want to mark your calendars, looking ahead:
April 19 Rich Panter (re-scheduled because of the floods that kept him from coming in February) and Brian Hunwick
May 17 Sarah Tiederman and Anne Spatola

Suggestion for Carpooling
|
|
The problem of the overcrowded parking lot was discussed at our past Congregational Meeting. Here is an idea:
Members and friends who live in Terra Linda, Novato, and further north must drive right past the Smith Ranch Road P&R lot. We could keep in mind that on days when we are not in a rush we could stop there and share cars. At about 10:20 am we could proceed to the Congregation's parking lot. There would be no need for prior arrangements.
For return to our car at P&R, there is no problem, since people leave at all hours. Just go out to see who is leaving and hitch a ride.
Suggested by Nani Ranken.
Also consider carpooling with your neighbors.
