August Class Schedule
The new school year is rapidly approaching, and with it comes added anxiety as to what the Fall will bring. As the old saying goes, Keep Calm and Carry On. Our esteemed instructors at the Davidson Center have devised a full list of important workshops and classes for students to take advantage of.

Along with our full schedule, we also have one-on-one sessions for subject tutoring and test prep, and additional schooling available for those that want that extra support during these trying times. "From a Blank Page to a Working Draft" Essay Class
Aug 1, 8, & 15 |  9 am - 11 am
Aug 10, 17, & 24  |  6 pm - 8 pm

This six-hour course is the perfect way to get your student ready for the challenge of writing a stellar personal essay. With direct instruction from our college advisors, your student will be guided through the process of finding their topic, structuring their story, and enhancing their vocabulary. Along with the initial three days of direct instruction, each student will also have a one-hour one-on-one virtual session to review and edit their work into a final piece.

Maximizing Scholarships: A Workshop for Parents and Their Students

Unsure of how to score the best scholarships for your student? We've got you covered. This workshop is a quick, two-hour session where we will discuss the three kinds of scholarships and the best practices in attaining them. By the end of our time, each student will leave with a plan to find and apply for their best fit scholarships, and each parent will walk away with the tools they need to empower their student to succeed.

College Application Class
Aug 3 - Aug 6  |  6 pm - 8 pm

Get the application done before school even begins. This four-day, in-person class is our all-in-one package, designed to empower students to complete the CommonApp (or an application of their choice) in a way that best highlights their strengths. By the end of the class, each student will have at least one complete application (including short essay responses) and a working draft of their primary essay.

Let's Talk About Community College
Aug 7 | 5 pm - 7 pm

The tidal wave of COVID has changed the landscape of admissions and financial aid for both colleges and the families they serve. Thankfully, North Carolina has a robust community college system that can absorb some of those shock waves. We invite you to come to learn more about community college options, the application and RDS process, costs, and opportunities afforded by FAFSA. Paying for College: A Workshop for Parents

Whether you are new to the financial aid process or seeking to adapt to a new financial reality, this workshop is designed to guide you in a way that is engaging and informative. We will discuss all elements of financial aid and how they fit together to form a cohesive means of paying for college without taking on burdensome levels of debt. This workshop will be available in person and virtually.

College Essay Boot Camp

Aug 20 | 6 pm - 8 pm

A blank page is a reluctant writer's worst enemy. Our College Essay Boot Camp helps kick start the writing process by providing students with the resources needed to formulate ideas and work independently. At the end of the two-hour class, students will leave with a working outline of a strong, personal essay, which they can continue to work on at their own pace. Each student will also receive a 30-minute virtual review of their first draft by the instructor within one week of the workshop date.

SAT Prep Class
Aug 10 - 14 | 9 am - 1:30 pm

Fall standardized testing is nearly here, and college applications are on the horizon. Shake off the last of the summer heat with our 5-day SAT Prep course, designed to cover every inch of the SAT. During this class, we will review each section, along with providing additional test-taking tips and best practices to help optimize your score.

Creating Your Most Amazing Resume
Aug 15 | 12 pm - 2 pm

A resume serves as a helpful part of the application process, both for admission and scholarships. With the future of test scores in flux, these qualitative elements are only going to take on more weight. Whether a student wants to wow a college, a scholarship committee, or a future employer, the skills taught in this workshop will extend beyond the college application process.

SAT Boot Camp
Aug 22 | 9 am - 2 pm

The Davidson Center has always hosted test prep boot camps the weekend before an exam, and this year is no different. We will have an SAT Boot Camp on August 22nd for the August 29th exam. During this session, we will cover the main parts of the SAT, along with providing important time-saving tips to make the most of your score. Don't miss out on this opportunity to refresh your mind and ready your pencils for success.

CommonApp Boot Camp
Aug 29 |  9 am - 1 pm

Our fast-paced, engaging CommonApp Boot Camp is a great way to begin the application process. Students will leave with a solid start on their CommonApp and a step-by-step checklist to finish the job. For this boot camp, we will be primarily focusing our efforts on working through the Profile, Family, Education, Testing, and Activities Sections. We will also be tackling the vitally important supplemental sections and short essay responses.
