NC Pork has a new logo
The N.C. Pork Council unveiled a new logo at the NC State Fair following the Board of Directors approval in late September. The new logo is intended to clearly convey who we are and what we represent. 

"We were looking for a logo that could be used in a variety of situations and that anyone looking at it would know at a glance what industry we represent," said Andy Curliss, CEO of the N.C. Pork Council. "We look forward to promoting the North Carolina pork industry with this versatile new identity." Look for more about the new logo in the upcoming issue of The NC Pork Report.

Whole Hog Barbecue Championship a hit on South Street 

The 2017 Whole Hog Barbecue Championship was a big success, with a new winner taking the top spot. Kevin Peterson of Johnson County took home the top prize for his team, Showtime's Legit Barbecue. The team also took home first place for blind taste and tied for first place in the Crispy Skin category with legendary pitmaster Charlie Meeks. Charlie also took home the second place trophy in the culinary division. See full list of winners.

This year, the showmanship division was replaced with a sauce competition. Phillip Weeks of Getting Piggy With It took the top prize in the sauce competition, which was judged by a panel of culinary celebrities. See full list of winners.

U.S. Pork Industry Seeks 2018 Pig Farmers of Tomorrow

The National Pork Board is searching for the next Pig Farmers of Tomorrow, with applications now open for the industry award through Nov. 21 at www.pigfarmersoftomorrow.com. The award, in its second year, is designed to recognize, inspire and connect with the next generation of American pig farmers.
 
This award recognizes future farm leaders, ages 18 to 29, who intend to make pig farming their life's work and are committed to the U.S. pork industry and to raising pigs using the We CareSM ethical principles.
 
Up to three award recipients will be selected. Winners will be invited to speak at National Pork Board events, including the March 2018 National Pork Industry Forum in Kansas City. For full rules and information, visit the website.
