Parent Requests to View Videos
|
|
From the
Operational Training regarding complaints, investigations and responses
, which was facilitated by the Legal department, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Director Megan Sheppard, and Assistant Superintendent Delich, one piece of information new to those attending the training was the fact that

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), parents have a right to have access to their children's educational records. The video tape is an educational record under FERPA.
If a parent requests to view videos, please follow these

|
The Hour of Code takes place during December in Saint Paul Public Schools.
Classrooms can participate in the global coding movement, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. Read more about the
Hour of Code
and ways classrooms can get involved in computer science.
Teachers do not need to be experts in coding to facilitate a meaningful learning experience for students.
How can teachers and students participate?
- Code.org (website, applicable for all students PreK - 12)
- Tynker (iPad app, best for primary and elementary students)
- Swift Playground (iPad app, best for secondary students)
- Hopscotch (iPad app, best for elementary and middle school students)
- *Please contact your building iPad Manager / Tech TOSA for additional questions about the resources above, or put in a Service Desk Ticket.
Please share information about coding or Hour of Code activities that will be happening at your school in the month of December. This information may be used in district publications including The Bridge and SPPS Today. Submit this
form
to share class or school activities.

Open Flames are Prohibited
|
|
Open flames in schools and on school grounds constitute a serious hazard to staff and students due to the possibility of burns by direct exposure to flame as well as from igniting fires or explosions. Open flames can also trigger fire alarms and lead to unnecessary building evacuations, panic and fire department responses.
Accordingly, the MN Department of Public Safety and the Saint Paul Department of Safety and Inspections do not allow the use of candles or open flames in classrooms.
No open flames are allowed in Saint Paul Public Schools buildings and grounds unless there is an approved exception and appropriate safety precautions are in place. Those precautions include prior approval, fire suppression equipment, adjustments to fire alarm systems, emergency procedures and shut offs, and more.
Exceptions:
- Flames used in science classroom applications
- Cooking in FACS rooms
- Approved outdoor grilling or campfires
- Ceremonial rituals (smudging, peace pipe smoking, etc., however, no open flames are allowed)
Please contact Facilities One Stop at 651-744-1800 with questions or to request an exception.
