Cedarburg Schools Re-Entry Plan Fall 2020
As we look ahead to the upcoming school year and the important decisions on how we are handling COVID-19 in the school setting, we want to assure you that we are approaching this work thoughtfully and collaboratively. The health and safety of our students and employees and ensuring that we provide a rigorous, enriching and high-quality education for all students are our highest priorities.
Our goal is to inform and provide you with an update every Wednesday throughout the summer months as our re-entry plan is developed. As a district, we must prepare to be nimble, agile and flexible to handle the ever-evolving restrictions and guidance on COVID-19. The plans developed yesterday may look different than the plans developed tomorrow. The one constant is change. With this in mind, please know that our plans will change.

A Message from Mr. Bugnacki

I had the pleasure of walking through a few of our buildings today. Our new and existing spaces are coming along nicely. There’s still plenty of work that needs to occur, but we’ll be ready for the first day of school. As I walked around, I was thrilled to run into teachers preparing their classrooms. Our teachers are rockstars - simply the best!! I was greeted by smiling eyes (wearing masks) and enthusiasm. Our rockstars, AKA “teacherstars", were unpacking, hanging material, setting up technology, arranging furniture and reviewing instructional materials all in anticipation of the first day of school. The commitment to their students, colleagues and school made me a bit emotional. During a time when there’s so much anger and discord in our country, our teachers were positive, full of energy and focused on preparing for the school year, it was refreshing. Their positivity is contagious and I left feeling so excited for our kids to meet this group of TEACHERSTARS in less than 2 weeks.

Stay Safe To Stay Open
With less than 14 days until our first day of school, we must continue to be diligent in our efforts to make good choices to tap down the virus. We know the virus will be in our schools, we know we will have positive cases in our schools, and we know this is our new reality... for at least the next year if not longer. Our collective efforts across our community is needed to keep our students and staff safe.
I am often asked, what are the COVID thresholds that would close a school or the district. There is no magical threshold, there are several different data sources we consult on a regular basis to monitor our district and community numbers. When I am pressed on the issue, I share that if we don’t have enough teachers available to teach, that would definitely cause a disruption to our current model. So when I state “Stay Safe to Stay Open”, I am asking everyone to make good decisions when out and about in our community so we can create the safest school environments for our TEACHERSTARS and our students. Cedarburg teachers are the MVPs of our system and we need to keep them safe and healthy so they can share their contagious enthusiasm for learning with their students.
Be well.

In preparation for the year ahead, a cohort of teachers have been identified and who have begun an in depth study of a professional resource associated with distance learning. In addition to the instructional practices implemented in April - June, the district is refining some of the processes and procedures associated with virtual learning and the start of a new school year.
