Mental Health Advocacy Services is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization protecting and advancing the legal rights of people with mental disabilities since 1977

Thank you for supporting Mental Health Advocacy Services.

With the generous support of our many donors and volunteers, MHAS has provided legal assistance to over 2,200 clients in 2018. Read about our programs here .

This has been an extremely difficult year for us at MHAS because our long-time Executive Director Jim Preis passed away in October. Jim first came to MHAS as a USC law student in 1977, became the Executive Director in 1979, and devoted 39 years to MHAS' mission of protecting and advancing the legal rights of people with mental disabilities.

Jim was a tireless champion for the rights of people with mental disabilities. He taught and mentored generations of lawyers, law students and advocates. He was dedicated to MHAS and built it into the vibrant, critically needed organization it is today.

We have been grateful, indeed overwhelmed, by the outpouring of community support over the last several months. The generosity and kindness of our many supporters and community partners have buoyed our spirits during this difficult transition.

The MHAS Staff and Board of Directors are committed to honoring Jim's legacy by carrying on the work to which he devoted his life, but we need your help.

In these divisive times, it is more important than ever for us to unite and stand up for the rights of the most vulnerable among us. Your tax-deductible donation to MHAS is critical in allowing us to continue providing life-changing legal services for people with mental disabilities.

Thank you, and Happy Holidays from all of us at MHAS to you and your loved ones.
