Home Going of Omer Alford
Mrs. Omer Alford, 103, of Atlanta, died August 20, 2005. For many years she was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Covington.
She was baptized into the fellowship of Baptist Tabernacle of Atlanta in 1926 and attended public schools in Atlanta. She served the Georgia and Southern Baptist Conventions effectively as President of the Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) of the Stone Mountain Baptist Association; President of the Woman's Missionary Union of the Georgia Baptist Convention, member of the Woman's Missionary Union Board of the SBC, Vice President of the Georgia Baptist Convention, member of the Executive Committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention and a member of the Administration Committee of the Executive Committee, the Public Affairs Committee, the Resolutions Committee, and the Nominations Committee.

In addition, she was a member of the Georgia Temperance League; member of the Committee to Study Southern Baptist Convention Program; the Southern Baptist Convention's Committee on Committees, and Committtee on Boards, and the Foreign Mission Board.

In her church, Mrs. Alford served as an adult Sunday School teacher and as an officer in the Woman's Missionary Union. Always an avid supporter of missions and missionary efforts, Mrs. Alford was an inspiring example of Christs message to "Go ye therefore..."

Mrs. Alford is preceded in death by her husband, John Inzer Alford, and a son, John I. Alford, Jr. She is survived by her son, Denny Shermer Alford, 6 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill Chapel. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
