Youth should feel secure and accepted when accessing our programs and services, and yet, we don't always have the tools or the language to be a true ally to our LGBTQAI youth.

Latin American Youth Center will provide on-site training regarding best practices in creating safe spaces. The LGBTQAI Ally Workshop is designed to support organizational change increasing safety and understanding for youth and staff. Each activity within the workshop builds upon the one prior, leading to best practices as an ally.

Workshop Description:
Parents, caregivers and families are often viewed and treated as being outside of a youth program's community, not as a core member within it. As a result, attracting and consistently engaging parents and caregivers is a challenge for many youth programs. In this workshop, participants will learn core strategies for building a respectful, responsive, welcoming and engaging environment based on the needs of parents and caregivers.

Participants will define their parenting community, identify their community's needs, explore the challenges to meeting those needs, and begin to develop program changes designed to build a thriving community of caregivers that meets their needs.
The second part of this workshop addresses ways to increase family engagement through structures and routines that ensure programs are offering opportunities for parents and caregivers to have their voices heard and to participate in meaningful ways more consistently throughout the program year.
