UPDATE: Board of Trustees Annual Organizational Meeting Recap
2018 Board Swearing In
At the Board of Trustees Annual Organizational Meeting on December 13th, Superintendent, Dr. Mark Johnson, conducted the Oath of Office ceremony for FVSD's Trustees Mrs. Sandra Crandall, Mr. Jim Cunneen and Mrs. Lisa Schultz.  All three Trustees were reelected to another four-year term, which ends in November of 2022.  In addition, the Board took action to elect its officers for 2019.  Congratulations to President Ian Collins, President Pro Tem Jeanne Galindo and Clerk Sandra Crandall.  The Board also took a moment to thank outgoing President Jim Cunneen and to celebrate the year's accomplishments under his leadership.  Lastly, the Board approved its meeting dates for the coming calendar year.  We look forward to 2019, and another successful year for our students, under the leadership of our amazing Board of Trustees.
SPOTLIGHT: Holiday Season in Full Swing with Outstanding Student Performances
Holiday Concerts 2018
FVSD students welcomed the holiday season with amazing performances, highlighting talents in drama, as well as instrumental and vocal music.  The FVSD community enjoyed concerts by our Honors Jazz Band, Masuda, Talbert and Fulton's instrumental music programs, performances by our Vocal Music program at Bella Terra and two performances by Talbert's drama students, just to name a few.  Students shined and crowds were filled with faces a glow as our students kicked off the holiday season in true FVSD style!  We hope you had an opportunity to enjoy one of these outstanding performances!  A very special thank you to Mr. Rob Covacevich, Mr. Jeremy LaMantia, Mr. Sean Adamiak, and Ms. Elena McDonald, in addition to our site administrators, for their work in producing these events for our community.  Simply fantastic!
HIGHLIGHT: FVSD Students Show True Holiday Spirit with Successful Drives and Fundraisers for our Community
FVSD Student Philanthropic Efforts 2018
One of the best aspects of working in education is helping students give back to their community in meaningful ways.  This year, our schools worked hard and displayed tremendous support for various groups/agencies, with successful drives and fundraisers at every site!  Here are just a few highlights:
  • Masuda PAL students organized a lunch time drop-in to make cards for our troops, as well as a food and coin drive, raising $500 for the recent fire victims.
  • More than 125 Tamura Tigers participated in the Run for a Claus at UCI, including a very successful toy and canned food drive benefiting Toys for Tots.  In addition, Tamura fifth graders adopted a family, giving gifts, including two bikes and helmets, tons of toys, books, clothes and shoes, along with a generous gift card.
  • Cox Eagles joined FVFD for their Candy Cane Lane Community Outreach Dinner, donating to Spark of Love and Toys for Tots.
  • Gisler Gators raised $1800 through their dime drive to benefit the American Red Cross and victims of the recent California fires.
  • Plavan, student council sold holiday grams to benefit the victims of the recent California fires, and collected first aid supplies for first responders, Team Rubicon.
  • Talbert PAL students hosted a holiday boutique, raising $900.
  • Fulton Falcons collected 472 pounds of food on campus, in addition to 560 pounds through an online drive.

This is just a handful of the numerous events at our sites over the last month to share in the spirit of giving.  We commend our students for their philanthropic efforts and for connecting to our community.  You truly inspire us to remember what the holidays are all about!
