Joint Arts Education Conference 2018
November 13, 2018 | Tucson
Every two years, the Joint Arts Education Conference brings together Arizona’s teaching artists, educators, arts administrators, and arts education advocates to explore key areas and trends in education and the significant role arts educators play in the academic, social, and personal success of students.
Creative Youth Development
This year the conference will focus on Creative Youth Development (CYD), a recent term for a longstanding theory of practice that integrates creative skill-building, inquiry, and expression with positive youth development principles, fueling young people’s imaginations and building critical learning and life skills.
Tomorrow's Leaders Today
In keeping with the principles of CYD, the Arts Commission and Department of Education have enlisted young Arizonans to plan and present JAEC 2018.
Conference attendees will acquire new tools and knowledge to support the creation of programs rooted in the principles of creative youth development (CYD) as they explore the potential of student-centered learning and develop culturally responsive curriculum.

2019 Arizona Poetry Out Loud: School Registration Now Open
Register closes Wednesday, October 31, 2018
Registration for 2019 Arizona Poetry Out Loud closes October 31st. Teachers who would like to participate register themselves for the program. Once registered, each participating teacher/school site receives a toolkit, which includes a program guide to help teach recitation and performance and a DVD and companion guide for learning recitation—free of charge.
Poetry Out Loud seeks to foster the next generation of literary readers by capitalizing on the latest trends in poetry – recitation and performance. The program builds on the resurgence of poetry as an oral art form, as seen in the slam poetry movement and the immense popularity of rap music among youth. Poetry Out Loud invites the dynamic aspects of slam poetry, spoken word, and theater into the English class. Through Poetry Out Loud, students can master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about their literary heritage.
