Emerging Artist winner will be soloist March 31
The winner of the 2017 SSO Emerging Artist Competition, violinist Ji Won Baxter, will be featured soloist in the next SSO concert, Darkness into Light, on Saturday, March 31, at 7:30. She will play Dmitri Kabalevsky's Violin Concerto. Also on the program: Ludwig van Beethoven's Coriolan Overture and Symphony No. 7.
William Rowson will conduct.

Sunday brunch with live classical music: Come and join us
The Sunday Classical Brunch Concert February 18 will feature Liesel Deppe (flute), Andrew MacDonald (horn), Katherine Napiwotzki (soprano) and David Murray (piano).

|
Ms. Deppe will perform
Suite de 3 morceaux pour Flute et Piano
by French composer Benjamin Godard, as well as Introduction et Variations sur la Romance de L'Opera Euryanthe by Friedrich Kuhlau. A Stratford resident, Ms. Deppe has been a member of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra since 2003 and she freelances with orchestras in southwestern Ontario, including the SSO.

Andrew MacDonald
|
|
Mr. MacDonald will perform
6 Duos Brillants for Horn and Piano, composed by
19th century Viennese horn player Jean Nisle. Mr. MacDonald, who has played professionally across Canada and is principal horn for the SSO, is a partner with the Stratford law firm McDonald and MacDonald.
Mr. MacDonald and Ms. Deppe will together perform
Souvenir Du Rigi, Idylle by Albert Franz Doppler.

Katherine Napiwotzski
|
Ms. Napiwotzski, joined by Ms. Deppe on flute, will sing two arias
(Neun deutsche Arien) by Georg Friedrich Handel. Originally from Stratford, Ms. Napiwotzski holds a Master of Music from the University of Toronto. She teaches voice at the Renaissance School of the Arts in Waterloo and maintains a private studio as well.

David Murray
|
|
Piano accompanist will be David Murray, an SSO board vice-president who is also serving as office manager for the Symphony. He studied music performance (bassoon) at Wilfrid Laurier University, then turned to dairy farming (now retired) after earning an associate diploma in agriculture at the University of Guelph.
The venue is Revival House, 70 Brunswick Street, Stratford. Brunch begins at 11:30 a.m.

Join us for an afternoon of glorious music performed by classical guitarist Colin Brisbois and soprano Simone Caruso at the Sunday, February 25, house concert fundraiser at Caledonia House, 20 Caledonia Street. Start time: 2 p.m.

Colin Brisbois
|
Mr. Brisbois will be performing a group of romantic Spanish pieces from the 19
th century by Francisco Tarrega and a suite of passionate Argentinian dances by Jose Luis Merlin.
He studied with British pedagogue Stephen Boswell at Capilano University in Vancouver and with Dr. Jeffrey McFadden at the University of Toronto. Mr. Brisbois lives in Stratford.

Simone Caruso
|
|
Ms. Simone recently performed with Quartteto Gelato and has performed key roles in a number of musicals. Her debut album, Only Love, a testament to love, commitment and passionate artistic exploration, was released in December. She is from Hamilton and studies with mezzo-soprano Gisele Fredette.
