Mira Costa Athletic Complex Update
Abatement activities have begun; in order to facilitate larger portions of this work while school is not in session, the entire Mira Costa High School campus will be closed during winter break (12/21/18-1/6/19). Asbestos abatement contractors are following strict regulations with independent third-party oversight while performing abatement to ensure that asbestos does not move into uninvolved areas. The demolition should be complete by February. There will be a ground breaking event in February, then everyone will be able to watch the new gym rise and progress toward the planned 2020 completion.
The planned timeline is as follows:
  • December 2018: February, 2019: Site and Building Abatement and Demolition
  • February 2019: Groundbreaking Ceremony
  • March 2019 - June 2020: Construction
  • July 2020: Construction Completion/Grand Opening
