Sanborn Starts New Chapter of Tri-M Music Honor Society
|
|
On Tuesday, October 16, the Tri-M Music Honor Society held its first ever induction ceremony at Sanborn Regional High School. As this is a new program for Sanborn, here is some background on the organization from its national
website:
"A Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter opens up a world of opportunities for students who have already shown themselves to be academically capable and musically gifted. Through performance and community service, they’ll develop confidence, creativity, critical thinking, compassion, and a host of other leadership skills sure to serve them well in school and beyond."
Choral director Erin Smith-Davis is the faculty adviser for the newly formed group, which hopes to engage in a variety of service and leadership-oriented activities this year in the Sanborn communities of Fremont, Newton, and Kingston.
Congratulations to the group's first inductees: Cara Abromowitz, Maia Anderson, Amelia Earnshaw, Diana Gibson, Erin Gillespie, Kaiden Lytle, Amanda Wentworth, Marissa Borgesi, Emma Bowen, Keegan Branham, Elinor Cotter, Jazmine Dixon, Lillianna Fowler, Courtney Gelina, Alexander George, Rachel Kelly, Casey Lundin, Samantha Manson, Ian Marsh, John Putnam, Avery Scully, Casey Sheehan, Bryant Szot, Addison Tate, Owen Tebo, and Elizabeth Wentworth.

Senior Spotlight: Adam O'Rourke
|
|
Note: Each week, we will feature 1-2 seniors with a spotlight article, written by a staff member.
This article was written by teacher Ashley Harbel
|
|
In Adam O’Rourke’s time here at Sanborn, he always strives to make a difference. Whether that is within his classroom, where teachers describe him as a “respected leader”, in Sanborn’s Theater Troupe, where his passion behind the scenes as the Stage Manager has helped make our theater program what it is, or as the Student Council School Board representative, a role in which his peers elected him to be their voice, Adam always is willing to go the extra mile to do what is needed. Evan Czyzowski says, “His hard work, determination, and passion have helped make the troupe’s productions first-rate. It’s no wonder that his peers elected him to be president of the Sanborn Theater Troupe - yet another role in which he excels”. And this sentiment rings true across all the classes and extracurricular activities that Adam takes part in.
I have been lucky enough to know Adam since Freshman year, when I had him in my 9th grade English class. Over the course of the last four years, I have seen Adam grow and mature into the impressive young man he is today. Every time I see Adam in the hallway, or when he stops by to say hello, he has a smile on his face and is takes time to catch up. He has this way of making even a short interaction with you seem important. Every hello, each smile, is genuine. Mark Giuliucci captures Adam’s personality when he says, “He is articulate and thoughtful, and always considers the ideas and needs of those around him”. Liz Richardson adds that, “he takes on the moral and helpful things because he wants to”. These are the rare, important qualities that separates Adam from the rest of his peers. And his teachers notice.
As Adam continues his Senior year, he is looking forward to continue working within our school with Life of a Student, Youth and Government, Student Council, the baseball team, and our Theater Troupe. As he wants to go into business and either run his own business or become a business exec, he is pushing himself with an internship with Truform Precision Manufacturing. While I am really going to miss seeing Adam around Sanborn when he graduates, I know that he is off to do great things, and I have no doubt in my mind that he will be extremely successful in both his personal and professional life. I can’t wait to see where his journey takes him!

Your Input is Needed for a Potential End of Year Senior Event
|
|
The SRHS school community, the SRHS PTO, Austin 17 House & So Rock NH believe there is an opportunity to establish a Senior Last Day of Classes celebratory activity/ event, to take place the evening of the last regular day of classes . The expected date for this would be Friday, May 31, 2019 for this school year . The thought is this would give the students one last big party together, but also provide a fun, safe and unique memorable experience for the graduating seniors. Several other area schools have a similar activity and it is one of the most popular senior events for grads.
The idea is that the HS PTO, Austin 17 House, So Rock NH and any other group that is interested, would work together to fund-raise for the activity, to lower the cost for the students. This event would take the place of the other day trip the seniors usually take to Six Flags during senior week and have to pay for, as well. Payment from the student would be required in advance to secure the reservations for the event.
To get this off the ground, however, we need at least a dozen HS parent volunteers to be part of the planning committee as the hope is to run fundraisers to cover the majority of the cost for the event to encourage as much student participation as possible. We will need parents of Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen to chaperone the event since we assume most Senior students won't want their parents with them!
The basic idea of the event is that on the last day of regular classes for the senior class, the students would return to the HS to be picked up by a coach bus, transported to Boston or Portsmouth for a moonlight cruise aboard the Spirit of Boston or Thomas Leighton (out of Portsmouth) with a DJ, dancing, games, food and other entertainment on board the ship, from 11pm-2am. Then, after the cruise, the bus would return to the area for more activities, most likely to be hosted at the Austin 17 House venue, in Brentwood. Potential activities there could include a hypnotist, movie, indoor obstacle course, raffle prizes and then a light breakfast with parents then picking up the kids at 6am.
We are interested in any and all fundraising ideas, but have some too if we can get a committee of dedicated parents to make this happen- ie: An electronic recycling fundraiser, spaghetti dinner hosted at Austin 17 House, Krispy Kreme or Cider Donut fundraiser.
Please take this quick survey to let us know if you would be interested in having your student attend, as well as if you would be interested in helping out in some way.

2nd Annual Sanborn Girls Basketball Blue/Gray Night
|
|
The Sanborn Girls Basketball Program will host their 2nd Annual Blue/Gray Night on November 16th, 2018. The event will start at 5:30PM at the Sanborn Regional High School and will involve all levels of female student athletes in the Sanborn Basketball Program. The night will be open to the community and will be a family friendly event that will have raise money for the Girls basketball program and collect food donations as part of the Girls Varsity Basketball Team Hoops for Help Food Drive. All of the food donations will be collected and brought to the Holy Angels Food Pantry in Plaistow, NH. This pantry serves the areas of Fremont, Kingston and Newton as well as other surrounding areas.
The event will feature a full inter-program scrimmage with each level taking the court for a quarter and competing against each other for bragging rights. Each quarter will feature players from grades 3rd through 12th grade. Players can still sign up to play until October 26th at
www.tinyurl.com/bluegraybball. The score will keep building all night and we will see whether the Blue side or the Gray side will take home the win. This event is our season kick off which is a fundraiser coached by rec coaches and the official season will start on November 19th for the High School.
Admission for this event will be 3 dollars a person with 5 and under free. Admission is only a $1 a person if they bring a food donation. There will also be concessions, fan contests between quarters and Sanborn basketball merchandise for purchase at the game and on our online store. We hope that the families of our players and the members of the community will come out and fill our gym for what should be a great night of fun.
If you have any questions or would like to be one of our sponsors for the night, please e-mail Girls Varsity Coach Brian Gray at

PTO Clothing Donation Bins
|
When you drop your unwanted clothing off in these bins, the SRHS PTO gets paid based on the weight of the clothing! This is a really easy way to help our school. All PTO proceeds go directly back to programming and scholarships that directly benefit our students.
Did you know? From April of 2015 - May 2017, this fundraiser has helped us raise nearly $2400.00 for the PTO. Help us double that number by sharing this opportunity with your friends, your family, and your neighbors!
