As we conclude this month’s theme of love, I thought about the poses that bring me joy. I noticed a common theme in many of the classes I took this month: heart opening poses. It’s a natural theme and is suitable for this time of year when it’s easy to turn inward.

I have found a lot of joy practicing Ardha Chandra Chapasana this month. Half Moon Bow pose invites you to find an open heart while maintaining a challenging position.
The word “chapa” refers to the sugarcane stalk the goddess Lalita uses as her bow. Her arrows are flowers, and she has a half moon (“ardha chandra”) in her hair. If the idea of flowers as arrows doesn’t make you smile and engage your inner hippie, then I don’t know what will! Lalita isn’t just an easygoing lady, though. She can be formidable when she sees justice needs to be served.

Ardha Chandra Chapasana teaches you to stay firm and strong in your beliefs, while being open in the heart and mind. Go find a heart-opening pose that brings out the inner hippie in you!

Happy practicing!

Peace,
Rae
