FEATURED EVENT:  Hillsboro Schools Summit
More than 60 people attended our Fall Hillsboro Schools Summit on Friday, Oct. 19. The event kicked off with a performance by the District's Una Voz Mariachi Band and sharing of information about the Mariachi STEAM Camp they participated in over the summer. Superintendent Scott then talked about summer bond work and gave special recognition to both Hillsboro Parks & Recreation and Inline Construction for their partnership and support. Next, a panel of student and staff speakers talked about valuable programming that took place over the summer and what those opportunities mean to students. Special recognition was given to our School Resource Officers and The Printory for their support of Connect Camps, and to the Washington County Early Learning Hub for their support of early learning programs. Pictures and a video of the event are available on our website .

Anti-Bullying Month Focus: Getting to Know Your State and Local Resources
Some of the ways we support safe and welcoming school environments are by providing confidential opportunities to share concerns or report an issue, and fostering strong partnerships with community organizations and service providers. Did you know there are two ways you can report concerns anonymously? One way is by using the Hillsboro School District app, the other is by using the SafeOregon statewide tip line. Hillsboro Police Department Launches Body-Worn Camera Program

In 2016, the Hillsboro Police Department (HPD) secured a $217,500 federal grant for body-worn cameras. Since then, they have been getting feedback from the community, researching best practices, developing a policy and program, acquiring devices, and conducting training. Last week, they announced the program had officially begun and over the course of the next few weeks, all patrol officers will have a body-worn camera. Soon, these cameras will be worn by our HPD school resource officers as well. The cameras are intended to enhance safety, build trust, demonstrate transparency and accountability, and are called an "effective tool in modern policing" by Chief Lee Dobrowolski. For more information about the program, when the cameras will be in use, and protections in place for youth, please see this press release and FAQ.
