          SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
       MORGAN McANDREW
 
This week's Senior Spotlight shines on Morgan McAndrew from Benet Academy. Beginning this Thursday, March 7, you can see her in the role of Theo in Benet's production of Pippin. The play runs March 7-10 and 14-16.
 
Extra-curricular involvement:
  • I've been involved in the Benet theatre department since freshman year, and I've loved being part of the musicals and plays. I'm excited about our upcoming performances of Pippin.
  • Since freshman year, I've also participated in Student Government and have been a drummer in various bands.
Awards or Accomplishments:
  • First Honors each semester in high school
  • National Merit Commended Scholar
  • Illinois State Scholar
  • National Honor Society member
Service involvement:
  • Recreational volunteer at Almost Home Kids
  • Peer tutor
  • Went on a spring break trip to Appalachia my junior year
College Plans:
  • I've been accepted to the College of Engineering at Purdue University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Iowa, as well as Creighton University but I haven't made my final choice
  • I plan to major in Neuroscience with a Pre-Med emphasis
Career Goals:
  • I'd like to be a pediatric cardiologist or oncologist
How my Catholic faith resonated with me today as a teenager:
  • This year I'm a Mass Choir director for our student-run program and really enjoy it. We choose the music for each Mass and lead rehearsals as well as conduct the actual Mass
  • I've been a part of Mass Choir throughout high school and it really helps me feel more involved in the liturgy
What I learned at SSPP that has helped me in high school?
  • I received a very strong foundation in English and Math because of Ms. Mahoney and Mrs. Phillip. Freshman English and Math are notoriously difficult classes at Benet but I was able to do very well because of how well both of those teachers prepared me!
Teacher at SSPP who had the most influence on me:
  • Mr. Duker! He was the reason I initially became interested in Science, and he helped me from fourth through eighth grades with everything from the rock cycle song to sponsoring me in the Science Fair. He even assisted me with the Diocesan Science Fair the year after he retired from SSPP. 
Best Peter and Paul experience that I cherish:
  • State Science Fair! In 8th grade I won gold and best in category for my project "How does UV affect the thermal conductivity of cross linked polyethylene?" 
  • I felt elated my hard work that year finally paid off
Advice for current students:
  • Don't be afraid to try as many activities as you can. Eventually you might find it's not for you, but at the very least it will allow you to meet new friends and determine exactly what appeals to you.

The Queen remains hidden after last week's drawing, so ticket sales at Quigley's will resume on Thursday and Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm,  and Saturday from 11:30 am - 8:00 pm.

Your support of our Annual Fund Drive is appreciated.

Our 26th annual school auction, scheduled for Saturday, March 16, will be held in our gym and Zuker Hall as it was on January 29, 1994 when this event was first held.

Spring is only 2 weeks away and that means golf season 
will soon be here.

The 31st annual SSPP Golf Outing will tee off at Cress Creek on Thursday,  September 12.

When our school was founded in 1853....

....families didn't worry about "falling back" and "springing forward" with their clocks each fall and spring.  For it wasn't until 1895 when  George Hudson proposed the idea of daylight saving. The German Empire and Austria -Hungary organized the first nationwide implementation, starting on April 30, 1916.
