Workforce Development Board Welcomes New Hire Carol Ginster

Carol Ginster, formerly of ACCES - VR has started working for the Workforce Development Board. She is doing data input in OSOS and assisting with data validation and reporting performance. Carol is located in the Communications office with Jodi Delapaz & Mary Kate Heaton.

Mathis Honored with Anne Bushnell Award

Our very own David Mathis, Director of Oneida County Workforce Development, was recently awarded the New York Community College Trustees' (NYCCT) Anne M. Bushnell Memorial Award for Special Achievement this past September. The Bushnell Award is the most prestigious award for community college trustees awarded by NYCCT. Congratulations David!

Local CNA Opportunities 

The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Mohawk Valley - 99 Sixth Ave., Ilion

The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Mohawk Valley (formally the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center) offers free CNA training to qualified individuals. The training lasts 5 weeks in order to prepare you for testing and employment following the training.

After you finish classes and pass your test, you will be brought into a contract to work for The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Mohawk Valley for a minimum of 6 months.

What do I have to do to be qualified? You must possess a High School diploma or High School Equivalency to be considered for the program.

Valley Health Services - 690 W. German St., Herkimer

Valley Health services in Herkimer offers a 5 week long training that is designed to have students take the CNA test. Classes are offered 3 times a year and can accommodate up to 8 students.

After you finish classes and pass your test, you will be brought into a contract to work for Valley Health Services for a minimum of 6 months.

What do I have to do to be qualified? You must possess a High School diploma or High School Equivalency. You also have to be employed at Valley Health Services as a Resident Aide in order to be considered for the program. Employment applications can be picked up at the reception desk of Valley Health Services or downloaded from their website at www.valleyhealthservices.org.

Mohawk Valley Workforce Summit on October 24th

A Mohawk Valley Workforce Summit
sponsored by Otsego County Chamber of Commerce & NYS Senator Seward  will be held on Wednesday, October 24, from 10 am to 3 pm at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown .

The theme for the Summit is "Attracting Talent and Growing the Employer-Ready Workforce in Otsego County and the Mohawk Valley Region". A Resource Fair for Businesses will be held just before the start of the event. Presenters include NYS Officials, NYSDOL Research & Statistics, Institute on Employment and Disability, American Apprenticeship Initiative, local schools & students.
