HART MEETS WITH PEARLRIDGE MERCHANTS AHEAD OF KAMEHAMEHA RESURFACING

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation business outreach team made a presentation to the Pearlridge Center Merchants' Association during a recent meeting at Monterey Bay Canners.

The team provided construction updates to Center merchants regarding work being done in the area and in particular, information on the Kamehameha Highway Resurfacing Project's Phase 1 (Acacia Road to Waiau), currently underway along the Ewa-end of the highway.  The work is scheduled to be mostly completed before the holiday season, with Phase 2 (Waiau Power Plant to Aloha Stadium) to begin early in the new year.

During the presentation, merchants and businesses were also encouraged to join HART's "Shop & Dine-on-the-Line" program.  "Shop & Dine" is HART's free business outreach program that helps businesses attract customers during rail construction.

In addition, the business outreach team is offering many other helpful resources for businesses potentially impacted by construction work as the rail project moves closer to interim service by 2020, and full service by 2025.
STATE SENATORS TOUR
RAIL TRANSIT PROJECT

Members of the Hawaii State Senate and the Senate Ways & Means Committee recently took a guided tour of several stops along the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.  The tour, led by HART Executive Director Andrew Robbins and Project Director Sam Carnaggio, began at the Project's Casting Yard in Kapolei.

Senators Lorraine Inouye, Gilbert Keith-Agaran and Donna Mercado Kim, staff representatives of Senators Donovan Dela Cruz and Breene Harimoto, as well as members of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, took the tour.

At the casting yard, the group learned that sections are currently being cast for the 5.15-mile Airport Guideway and Stations section of the Project, at a rate of about seven segments per day.  Each segment is required to be cast precisely to specific dimensions, and each varies slightly in specifications meaning, of the thousands of individual segments that make up the 20.02 miles of guideway, no two are alike.

The group's second stop was at the Hō'ae'ae (West Loch) Station in Waipahu. At just more than 80% complete, the Hō'ae'ae Station is the closest to completion of the nine stations along the Ewa-end of the Project.

Finally, the tour ended at HART's Rail Operations Center in Waipahu.  The group made a brief visit to the Operations' Control Room, using the opportunity to ask questions of the engineers in attendance.  The tour ended on a highlight, a walkthrough of one of the trains that will eventually comprise the 20-train fleet for the project.

SAFETY REMINDER:
THINK SAFETY IN ALL
CONSTRUCTION ZONES!

In various forms, construction work is underway all al ong the length of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.

HART reminds you to stay alert and minimize distractions as you drive through ALL constructions zones.  Make it a point to direct your full attention to the roadway and obey any traffic flaggers that may be in the area.  Avoid using your mobile device, changing radio stations, eating, or any other distractions that might take your attention away from the safe operation of your vehicle.

Remind passengers that your vehicle is entering a construction zone, and ask them to limit distractions to the driver.  Also, please be aware that the posted speed limits in these areas are adjusted to ensure the safety of both drivers and work crews.  In construction zones, the adjusted speed limit is 25 miles-per-hour.

HART thanks you for your patience and understanding as crews work to complete the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.

"IT'S NOT JUST SAFETY FIRST,
IT'S SAFETY ALWAYS!"
