News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Friends and Parishioners of St. Mary's,

This Saturday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. we have another wonderful Community Meal planned and I hope you will join us. This is a great opportunity to gather with new and old friends alike and have a great dinner.

On Sunday October 28 th following the 10:00 a.m. service, we will be discussing Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's new book; "Crazy Christians: A Call to Follow Jesus." Please grab some coffee as well as some coffee hour snacks and join us in the school wing at 11:15 a.m.   All are Welcome.

Just a gentle reminder, to please check your pledge statements to make sure you are currently paid up.   When you make a pledge we include your pledge in the annual budget and rely on it to cover operating expenses for the parish.   If you are unable to make your pledge please speak with the wardens or me so that we can plan accordingly. We understand that sometimes financial emergencies arise. Thank you.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the 28 volunteers who made our outdoor work day so successful. Much of our grounds are now prepared for the winter and everything is looking great. Thank you for your time and effort. A shout-out to Co-Warden, Tracy Higgins, who organized the afternoon and the wonderful lunch that followed.

See you all on Sunday,
Fran +

All Saints' Sunday - November 4

This year in preparation for our All Saints' Sunday Celebration on Nov. 4 th , we are once again inviting people to make  prayer flags for those who have died Colored paper prayer flags and markers will be available at the back of the church throughout the month of October.  Please make a flag for anyone and everyone whom you would like us to remember this All Saints' Sunday.  You may make as many flags as you wish.  The flags will be hanging in the church throughout the month of November.  You may write the person's name, dates, and/or a note about them.

In addition to the prayer flags, you are also invited to bring in photos of those family members and friends to be remembered. We'll scan and print them in the office, and they will be displayed in the church, along with the flags.   Be sure to put your name on the photo so it can be returned to you.

* If you have digital copies of the photos you'd like to use, please email them to the parish office.   If you submitted photos last year, no need to resubmit them - we will use them again, unless you tell us otherwise .

ReVive Center for Housing and Healing
Christmas Basket Program

St. Mary's is once again participating in the ReVive Center's Christmas Basket Program. This is a wonderful opportunity for members of our Parish to purchase Jewel gift cards or shop for individual Christmas gifts for some of the most impoverished families and seniors of our metropolitan area. This year we have been asked to sponsor 14 seniors and 7 small families.

Sign up in the Great Hall.   See the display for more detailed information.

Please wrap and label gifts (new) and put them in a cardboard box for transport to the ReVive Center. Label the box with the family code number. If your box isn't full, don't tape it so we can add more gifts if necessary.

Please bring gift cards to the office and  gift items to the Nursery by  11:00 a.m. Sunday, December 2.

Thank you to everyone for continuing to make this special outreach ministry so meaningful and successful!
