The Legacy We Have Been Given
|
Marking Dedication Commemoration Sunday
|
This Sunday is Dedication Commemoration Sunday at Fourth Presbyterian Church, declared by Pastor John Timothy Stone in 1914 to be observed on the third Sunday of each May.
One hundred and three years ago, on Sunday, May 10, 1914, the Fourth Church congregation worshiped in the Michigan Avenue Sanctuary for the first time, having moved from its smaller facility on Rush at Superior.
A series of dedicatory services were held the remainder of that week, and later that month, the new Sanctuary and Parish House buildings were host to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, including the assembly's communion service attended by more than 1,800 worshipers.
As we give thanks this weekend for the legacy given us by those who built this church, it is also a time when we remember that we too are caretakers of that legacy, charged with passing it on to those who follow. For information about including Fourth Church in your planned giving and estate plans, contact
Katy Frey Bever (312.981.3380).

Cultivating Stewardship Connections
|
Do you know someone who would be a good fit for our new Major and Planned Giving Officer position?
We're looking for someone who will help us cultivate relationships with donors, encourage stewardship connections, and develop a broad-based planned-giving program.

A Report from the Committee
|
The Senior Associate Pastor Nominating Committee has been hard at work since they shared their update at the Annual Meeting of the Congregation in February. Here is the latest report of the committee, which is made up of
Allison Youngblood, Chair; John Borovicka, Lesley Conzelman, Cary Donham, Arlene Faulk, Elizabeth Foster, and Cornell Wilson.
In recent weeks we have been interviewing candidates for the Senior Associate Pastor for Leadership Development and Adult Education. As a reminder, this person will be responsible for three main areas: (1) Associate Pastor supervision; (2) leadership development for staff and lay leaders; (3) adult education.
Our initial interviews are focusing on skills and experience for this position as well as the fit with Fourth Church and all of our pastoral staff. We are excited about the variety and depth of experience of those we have been interviewing for this new position. We continue to make good progress with our work to narrow the candidates list and are energized by the opportunities that lie ahead!
We very much appreciate your keeping us, this congregation, and our candidates in your prayers as we continue discernment through this process.

On Sunday, June 4 our Summer Sunday School session will begin, with classes offered at the 9:30 a.m. hour only each Sunday. We look forward to children being with us in Sunday School and worship over the summer!

Declutter--or "Edit"--Your Life
|
A Presentation Hosted by Women at Fourth
|
This coming Thursday, Claudia McLaughlin, Founder of CMF Transitional Organization, will join us at an event hosted by Women at Fourth to talk about decluttering--or "editing"--your home, whether to rightsize your home for the purposes of downsizing for a move or simply to create more space in your life and mind. Come find out about the key considerations for creating an editing plan that can work for you and your family.
Additionally, Claudia will be sharing the "CMFTO™ Road Show" with us, highlighting real-life examples of misunderstood valuations when it comes to personal treasures.
Join us to learn about how a decluttering plan can work for you and your family. Everyone is invited.
As part of the program there will also be a book swap to help us each declutter our shelves. Please bring any books that you would like to swap (limit 10), and look forward to picking up some fun new reads for the summer! Any extra books will be donated to guests of the Chicago Lights Elam Davies Social Service Center.
