Bears of the Week: "Catching the Winning Behaviors"

Bear of the Week (staff): Joelle Heath, Social Studies Teacher
Nominator: Anonymous

" Ms. Heath is the driving force behind the food collection project some teachers are working on together this year. She began to collect food last year in order to help cut down on waste here on campus and has not only continued the project this year but has involved more teachers and students. Multiple days a week she takes food that would have been thrown out by students and brings it to a homeless shelter. Cypress is lucky to have such a dedicated teacher like Ms. Heath."

** SGA also agrees with everything stated above!

Baby Bear of the Week (student): Daniel Romero
Nominator: Haylie Bonneville

" I am nominating Daniel because I was in a car accident on September 24th and Daniel saw me and three of my girls on the side of the road in distress. He stopped to check on us. Fortunately we are okay (my van is not) - it was a hit and run as in a runner on foot after the accident and Daniel stayed with us for 20 minutes. I told him we were okay and that he could go home. We were just tired and at this point, hungry (it was dinner time and I had my 14-month-old, 11-year-old, and 8-year-old with me). What makes him exemplary is the compassion he showed us. Not only did he check on us once, but he then returned about 25 minutes later with Happy Meals, a Big Mac Meal, and baby food. I'm beyond touched by his act of kindness. This is the character of an amazing young man that helped his teacher in a very traumatic time for me and my kids."

CCHS remembers the 243rd birthday of the United States Navy (Oct. 13, 1775)

Many of our CCHS community have had members of their families serve in the past or are serving today in the U.S. Navy. This past weekend was the Navy's official birthday. Founded on October 13, 1775, the Continental Navy was created by Congress to defend and protect American coastal communities and colonies from British attacks, and to disrupt British communications. LNMS thanks all current and former Navy personnel for their service.

The U.S. Navy celebrates its 243rd birthday with a cake at Phelps Chow Hall, aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, Calif., Oct. 11, 2018.

The U.S. Navy never closes operating 24/7 for the good of all U.S. citizens. Pictured above a Petty Officer greets his 7-year-old son after returning from a long deployment aboard the fast-attack submarine, USS Virginia.
