Next Sunday, April 15, a breakfast of all-you-can-eat pancakes, sides, coffee, and juice, along with gluten-free options--for a suggested donation of $12--will be prepared and served by the youth between 9:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in Borwell Dining Room.

Included in this year's fare, for an additional $5, will be Grandma's Barbacoa Breakfast Tacos by Scott Miller, winner of our 2018 Chili Cook-off.

Proceeds from the pancake breakfast support our youth as they travel this summer to participate in mission trips to Cuba, Detroit, and Missouri and the Montreat Youth Conference in North Carolina.

fiveUnderstanding Systemic Racism
A Workshop at Fourth Church May 24-26
This May we will be hosting a two-and-a-half-day anti-racism workshop: "Analyzing and Understanding Systemic Racism."

The Thursday-to-Saturday, May 24-26 workshop will be presented by Chicago ROAR (Regional Organizing for Anti-Racism) and is designed to reveal how systemic racism plays a role in often unseen ways by creating barriers to true multicultural diversity and racial justice.

Early-bird registration rates are available through Thursday, April 26. To receive the Fourth Church discount and the registration link, please contact Vicky Curtiss.

Those who are interested in helping to raise funds to support our anti-racism training efforts are invited to take part in the Gospel Run 5K/10K (which includes a half-mile walk for children) on Saturday, June 2, whether as a walker, runner, or pledger. To register for the Gospel Run or make a pledge to it, sign up at the Interfaith Coalition Against Racism team page at www.raceroster.com/16612 by Sunday, May 15.

sixStudying "Church and Empire"
New Adult Education Class Begins Sunday
In every century and country of church history, Christians have asked, "How do we follow Jesus in the context of imperial powers?"

Shaping the answers to that question have been New Testament responses to the Roman Empire.

With Walter Hansen--Fourth Church member and professor emeritus of New Testament interpretation at Fuller Theological Seminary--leading us in our inquiry, we will spend the next four weeks seeking to follow the same guide as we ask the same question today.

Join us for "Church and Empire," a new Academy for Faith and Life course beginning on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

Time:
     Sundays, April 8-29
     11:00 a.m.

Place:
     Room 5D

Join us May 18-20 for camp classics, from hikes and campfires, to activities such as rock climbing and canoeing as well as Sunday morning worship out on the lakefront.

We stay in the camp's main lodge in rooms that are akin to hotel rooms while also having plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors.
