Meet Sci-ROI India
September 19 (2:00 PM- 2:30 PM ET)
Meet the Sci-ROI India team who are determined to enable the communication from the other end and support you with your transition to India. Learn who they are, what their vision is and how you can stay in touch with the welcoming community of growing young STEM scholars in India.
STIP 2020 – Consultation forum for Indian diaspora
Sci-ROI is planning to put forward a series of recommendations to the STIP 2020 Secretariat for consideration into the current policy formulation and we need your active support. We have come up with a 5-minute survey for you to let us know the challenges you faced during your transition (or your perception towards future transition) from abroad to Indian STEM careers. Your inputs will genuinely help us in identifying the limitations and plausible solutions facilitating a renewed and improved science & technology environment in India.
STIP 2020 is a landmark policy initiative facilitated jointly by the Office of PSA to the Govt. of India and the Dept. of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India. Sci-ROI is partnering with STIP 2020 Secretariat and the Science Policy Forum to feed in diaspora related recommendations in this policy process through various activities. Sci-ROI will be represented in the upcoming ‘STIP2020 Consultation with Indian Diaspora’ to be chaired by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Science & Technology.
Virtual Recruitment Week (October 6th- November 1st, 2020)
Sci-ROI’s platform has enabled connections between reputable Indian institutions (IITs, IISERs, National Research Institutes, private educational and corporate institutions) and well-qualified researchers and professionals from U.S. academic institutions. Our in-person interview event in 2019 involved 75+ applicants who participated in 95+ interviews.
This year we invite you to join our virtual recruitment week in October to explore professional opportunities at eminent institutes in India and to engage in 1-on-1 interviews with their recruiting team. We already have 17 organizations participating with us. Do not want to miss this opportunity? You can still register for the event!
Volunteer's Corner
I have been a part of the Sci-ROI Organizing team since January 2020 and it has been one of the most gratifying experiences for me so far. I joined Sci-ROI to bring into focus ’non’-traditional careers like science administration, communication, and policy and to inform and reassure young STEM professionals that there are opportunities beyond academia. The result of this team effort is a marvelous panel on 19th September (as part of our annual event). One aspect of Sci-ROI that still amazes me is the dedication and willingness of the team to go beyond their way in enabling opportunities for fellow scholars of the greater Sci-ROI member family outside India. The recruitment week in October is the enactment of one such effort. Glad to make some close friends with similar aspirations but diverse talents.
I am a Neuroscientist by profession and a Science communicator by passion. I attended Sci-ROI annual event last year at Chicago and instantly got connected with the focus of this great organization. Since then I joined the team of Sci-ROI volunteers and actively working together with 9 more extremely talented STEM professionals to bring this year's virtual event (first of its kind) into life. I was overall responsible for the outreach of our organization. So happy to mention, going virtual, this year we could open up our event beyond US, to our community spread across the globe. I possess a dream to transform Sci-ROI into a continuous support system with round the year activities and our team is working towards it so passionately. I wish to see Sci-ROI growing in 360 degrees so we can address many critical challenges on the field to empower a renewed and improved science & technology environment in India. At the end, I want to see myself transitioning to where I belong and uplift the system for a better tomorrow through my continuous engagement with Sci-ROI.
